So could someone chime in on the OP’s photo of why there is 59 minutes left of charging at 43% SOC at a current 216kw? Why so long still till, I would assume here, 100% SOC?
Others have addressed this question, but coming about it from a different angle. Using some rough math, it's really only like a 2 minute savings from 10 to 60% too. It will be interesting to see if they do anything else to the backbone curve. If it actually gets up to 225kw, then I think they'll also extend the plateau up to about 60% from 52ish%.

Yes thanks Brice. It’s good info for those charging deserts across WY where you have to go to 95-98% SOC to make it to the next charger. An hour and a half will be needed. (In fact, I plug in Yellowstone National Park in ABRP and it can’t get me there from my home). You’re right in that we get excited for the unlocked higher kv but it really doesn’t do much at all for the back end when you have those less frequent cases when you need it—yet.

I know @Gshenderson is keenly aware of this issue with his cabin in WY.

Hopefully in the next 2 years or so we'll start to see those deserts fill in quite a bit. The infrastructure bill requires no more than 50 miles between chargers of at least 150 kW in order to receive funds. The primary focus is interstates, but will flow to state highways and other routes if money is left over. I know there was a requirement on the number of stalls at each location, but I can't recall that one right now.

This raises a good question: is there a microphone outside the vehicle? Perhaps with the EV noise speaker?
No. I wish there was, so I could hear conversations from the Gear Guard video... "Who makes Rivian?!?!"

hahaha... I talked with the cart guy at the Walmart in Hood River a week or so ago and he asked me 3 times "Who makes a Rivian" I answered him 3 times then he asked "Is it made in the US" which I replied yes. Then he gave a very surprised "well I'll be" and shared an anecdote about the VW auto ship sinking due to a battery fire.

The best I heard so far though was coming out of Winco in Gresham and some guy was walking by it and said "What the f**k kind of truck is that"

I guess we are out there spreading Rivian awareness :)

Every Rivian owner should be fully prepared for "who's on first" type dialogue with random strangers about their truck for the next 2-3 years.

So my charging experience at Electrify America has been awesome. I have been getting the full 150 out of the 150 and this is what I’m currently getting out of the 350s

Rivian R1T R1S 216 kw charging achieved at EA station after OTA update 8CA41A69-8A44-49B7-9F5D-27EADBBF40B4

Four CCS ports, minimum of 150kW each, which will mean better infrastructure than some of the stations GA and GA Power have put in that are Chargepoint stations with 2 CCS cables that are 62.5kW each and can pair for 125 kW (they're up to 125 kW if only 1 vehicle is charging but they get dropped to 62.5W or less as soon as a 2nd vehicle is connected).

  • EV charging infrastructure is installed every 50 miles along the State’s portions of the
    Interstate Highway System within 1 travel mile of the Interstate, unless a discretionary
    exception has been granted;
  • - EV charging infrastructure includes at least four 150kW Direct Current (DC) Fast Chargers
    with Combined Charging System (CCS) ports capable of simultaneously DC charging four
    EVs;
  • - EV charging infrastructure has minimum station power capability at or above 600kW and
    supports at least 150kW per port simultaneously across four ports for charging
FWIW, state plans for using the National Electric Vehicle Investment grants are due August 1, 2022 and will be approved by September 30 if there aren't any major issues with a state's proposal.

The UPS guy that delivered all my gear the other day backed into my driveway which was odd and said he had 5 large boxes for me. Then he starts asking about the truck, who makes it, how it all works, charging, where it can go. He was at my house a good 10 mins walking around and looking at the truck. He was genuinely curious and it was great fun to answer his questions and show him the truck.

Colorado has been helping fund a bunch of those Chargepoint station installs too. With the new requirements, I'll bet they're thinking that strategy was unwise. But, at least in our case they tend to be installed in the smaller mountain towns that wouldn't have any charging infrastructure otherwise and well off the interstate in most cases.

Yeah, the bottom line for me is that I'd rather have as many chargers as possible, no matter what type they are. What's a bit of a shame is that a couple of the shared 125kW stations I know of are on a very popular route from the Atlanta area toward the NC mountains, including Cherokee and a bunch of smaller towns. That route is now listed as a candidate EV corridor, which means those stations that went in previously will have to be supplanted by other pedestals or other sites entirely. With a little better forward planning, the funds for those 125kW shared stations could have been used to put those on a smaller corridor that probably won't ever get official EV corridor designation or grant resources for anything like 4x 150kW sites.

I'm looking forward to September 30, or maybe sometime in October, when the plans start getting approved and published so we can all have fun looking over each state's plans and 2nd-guessing the priorities they made! :)

When I got my first Tesla model S, in early 2013, I was stopped on the freeway in a traffic jam in Seattle, and this guy in an 18 wheeler drives up beside me and yells out "how do you like you Tesla"? Everywhere we parked people would stop and take pictures. It was crazy. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Sir. Sir. Your truck is broken. It seems to be collecting miles rather than kwh. ?
