Gen2 only - at gen2 launch this was called out as one of the key differences with gen1 (and implied to be there on day1… …but I digress).

No idea but the texting in my '26 Sierra EV with the Google system works great. I'd give it up in a minute for functional Apple Car Key.

That’s what I don’t get though

if it supports nfc, and uses existing wallet stuff why no option for support for gen 1, which has an nfc reader still?


iirc wassym said and then redacted way back in early gen 1 they were working on Apple Watch on gen 1 , but then they said they couldn’t because UWB so only gen 2 gets it

But my apple wallet isn’t uwb…

What am I missing here?

I am guessing it will look exactly like this, i.e. your card key

Very cool! Looking forward to this feature! I don't really use Google Wallet, but for an NFC card key, I'll give it a shot. I have the wallet on my Google watch.

This is interesting because... it's on my watch. Current watch. Don't have to buy some new thing for this to work. So tired of "Here's a new feature that we added! But you have to have something that supports the level of OS before you can use it..." (I'm looking at you, Tesla Apple watch app).

Spent an hour trying to add the Digital Key to the wallet app for my new Pixel Watch 3 paired to Pixel 8 Pro. Called support and opened the ticket. They called me back and informed me feature is not available yet it is on hold for now. Will try again after the next update.
