Damper Backordered over a month?

Just out of curiosity, is it normal for Rivian parts to be back ordered for such long times?

I've had a 2023 r1s in the shop for a month as a dampener has been back ordered. They said they're finally getting it this week but they've also delayed it multiple times so I've been at finally have the vehicle back by the end of the week.

Over a month seems extensive however for a part.

Yes, it can be. I’ve had to wait three months before for a part to arrive at the body shop. Luckily, I was able to drive the car until the part arrived

Yes. My panoramic roof glass was backordered for 2 months. Luckily, I was able to drive it with the crack going halfway across my glass and didn’t have to leave it in the shop.

When our R1S was in for it's 59,400-mile thorough inspection two months ago, they decided to replace the front dampers and half-shafts. We had to wait 10 days for the parts to come in - rockin' the Enterprise Chrysler Pacifica minivan while we waited.

Ebb and flow of production and supply chain, for a small car brand with less volume and leverage on suppliers, over much larger competition the suppliers also serve. To be expected. And any disruption to global manufacturing and logistics will always make the bottleneck even worse. Even if the supplier is domestic, it may have its own list of suppliers who aren’t.
