1) The price of the Rivian crossbars is high, but not out of line with other major brands (Yakima, Thule, etc.)

Rivian crossbars are currently $650. I got mine for $450.
Thule: $560 https://www.rackwarehouse.com/products/thule-evo-rack/vehicle/rivian/r1s/
Yakima: $595 https://yakima.com/products/bedrock-hd-system
There are others that are a LOT more than that.

2) I don't know about the ones you linked, but they look like they have a generic mounting not specific to Rivians and are just being sold as Rivian-compatible. The fact that the manual on the site doesn't show the detail of how the mount attaches to Rivian's unique mounting points is telling to me. I personally wouldn't buy them because I have no confidence that I would be able to return them if there were a problem or that they are properly constructed or rated for the load I carry (a RTT in my case).

Thanks. They are "sort of" Rivian specific, they are supplied with a bracket that goes around the the mounting point

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't see that in the manual. I wonder how well that works.

If the crossbars are intended as a one time use thing, then I would go for the cheap aftermarket option. But if you are expecting to leave these permanently attached or use them frequently then the OEM bars are totally worth the extra money.

Rivian's crossbars are really nice, both in appearance and in functionality. After spending $100,000 on the vehicle it seems silly to cut corners on the last $400.

I also agree with the ease of use thing. They are SUPER easy to snap on / snap off - to the point that you can put them on only when you need them or want them. Other solutions like in the OP have to be bolted on permanently.

I actually keep my crossbars attached to the bottom of my RTT. That way, I can just pick up the RTT and snap it onto my R1T bed - it takes about 5 minutes from start to finish. Seriously, I've timed it. And when I'm done with the RTT, just unlock the crossbars and I can lift it right off and put it in the corner of my garage. Again, 5 minutes. Having to mount an remount a RTT to a permanently-fixed set of crossbars could easily take an hour. That's how long it originally took me to get it up there, position it, then deal with the mounting fixtures. Glad I only had to do that once.

If your crossbars are for something simpler, or if you don't use them often, then maybe a permanent attachment will work for you. If your crossbars are just for show (like some people, not judging) then I would definitely go for the Rivian ones.

I didn't spend $100K, i was a pre-order holder otherwise I wouldn't have been comfortable pulling the trigger. While i agree, I don't want to spend the extra $400 if i don't have too.

"Kindly" in instructions is a telltale sign it's from a particular place in Asia, just like all the questionable items you'd find on eBay. When you have a problem with a Rivian, Yakima or Thule rack, you know who to turn to. When you have a problem with these, who are you going to turn to? will they be there when you "call"? You might be saving hundreds. But you could also be out hundreds (and that's assuming best scenario, that the loss are limited to the bars). Not logical to me.

Quality racks are expensive. If you plan on heavy usage or taking it on and off frequently the ease of use and quality of the OEM are well worth the price difference IMO.

plus if you use Yakima attachments being able to key them all to a single key is also super convenient.

I'd be very skeptical of any product that doesn't have it pictured with your specific vehicle.

I bought something like this for my Ioniq5 on Amazon and their 'fitment' was not good so they got sent back.

If you plan to try I would find them on Walmart/Amazon or equivalent so you can easily return when the don't fit well.

Definitely try FB Marketplace-I was on the fence and then score a set of like new black crossbars for my R1S for $350-the seller was a joy to work with and no sales tax.

FB Marketplace is rife with scammers. Be very careful. Do not buy unless you are absolutely sure seller is legit and local.
