Crossbar question

I previously had a set of generic aftermarket crossbars that worked just fine, but were limited since they only fit the bed of my R1T, and did not have T-slots. They were actually quite well made, fit nicely and were reasonably priced, but their limitations ultimately resulted in me selling them.

I'd like their replacement to be the factory style bars, but Rivian's pricing makes me blink. The facsimiles from web-based third-party sellers are less, though not by a huge amount, and so do not seem worth taking a chance on. A set of used Rivian X-bars is an option, but that requires luck and good timing, and is also not without risk unless you can find a local seller.

Is there any alternative other than simply getting resigned to forking over the $700 or so needed to get a set of crossbars from Rivian?

Factory bars are also sold frequently secondhand, here and other Rivian owner forums (just be aware of scammers and limit yourself to local face-to-face exchanges). Some NIB at reduced price. I’m in the process selling two pairs. Just waiting on buyers to follow through with exchange.

There’re not made of precious metals and supply is far from limited. There’s little reason to take chances with mystery bars from unknown manufacturers with no info on dynamic load limits. Thule has a non-adjustable option that is trustworthy. But they cost as much as factory. The factory ones are supplied by Yakima. Neither Thule or Yakima are going anywhere soon. Generic knock-off sellers come and go overnight.

Look on Facebook market place or if there is a local Rivian Buy/Sell page, post your request there. There were used black crossbars on our local CO page just today for $350.

I’ve got a spare set of oem silver with one key (cannot for the life of me remember where I put the other) Never been used, however they’re out of the box. I’m in NE NJ. I’m looking to get $500 for em. I just have not gotten around to posting them yet. (Lazy bastard)

Buy used from Craigslist or other place, you can pick them up for $400 or less, but most on the used market are the original silver. The factory racks are worth the high cost, IMO, because they're fast and easy to put on and take off, and they do look well engineered.

I'll add to the opinion of buying a used set. I recently bought a set that were advertised on this forum and they look good (no scratches), work well and were significantly less than a new set.
