Just now noticing that the electric truck credit (GVWR over 8,500) doesn't increase to 5,000 until 1/1/24 (as opposed to the electric vehicle credit, which increased to 5,000 on 7/1/23 for vehicles < 8,500 GVWR).

Supposed to take delivery next Saturday (picked from the shop), but this is giving me pause. $2,200 extra in my pocket to wait until 2024. Ugh.

What is the GVWR for a quad motor R1S? Does it exceed 8500 lbs?
I'm scheduled for Oct-Dec but I don't think I want to delay any more to get beyond Jan 1. It's looking to me like Rivian is ramping up nicely and should eadily meet my current window.

8.532 according to the owner's manual. (pg. 245, https://assets.rivian.com/2md5qhoea...4a9ef574322d52ba1a4/r1s-og-en-us-20230718.pdf )

I'm sure you could request shop access and even get it sooner if you want. I was Q1 2024 delivery window and easily got access after taking a test drive and requesting in chat. My exact configuration popped up in 2 days.

I'm moving forward, since I think it's plausible my trade-in could depreciate 2,200 between now and January. Their offer for my 2016 4 runner also beat Carmax and Carvana by 2,000+.and was at the top of the kbb blue book range.

By "Their," do you mean Rivian? I'll be selling or trading a 2016 Model X and have started looking at the different options. Based on forum posts, it looks like offers are all over the map. One person's great offer from Carmax is countered by someone's terrible Carmax offer.

Yes, Rivian. In my experience it's typical for Carmax/Carvana (and others) offers to be all over the map. That's the reason I check a bunch of them whenever I need to sell or trade a car. In CO, trade in is usually the best bet due to trade in reducing the value of the vehicle subject to sales tax (based on residence, but 8.81% if you live in Denver). Definitely crunch the numbers to confirm.

Hey fellas, just checkin’ in after enjoying my new/used R1T over the weekend. Just wanted to say that I saw a miracle over the weekend. I went to a traditional dealer that didn’t suck monkey nuts. That would be Christopher‘s Ram/Dodge in Golden.

This R1T will be the 50th vehicle I’ve bought over the years and this was, by far, the easiest transaction I’ve done. The R1T in question was originally listed for $85K. The sales manager claimed he had $77K into it (which sounds reasonable). I told him I had found them for as little as $79K and he immediately offered $80K. BTW, that negotiation was done over the phone. My wife and I drove over the next day, did an inspection and very long test drive. The sales reps admitted up front that they didn’t have any experience for Rivian so they kinda liked the mini demo I gave them.

Anyways, hands were shook, money was transferred, and I was out of there pretty quick. The finance guy didn’t try to upsell me on anything (not sure if they could have offered something). They did try to beat my financing from Navy Fed, but missed it by over a point. Anyways, it was a great experience.

So if you’re looking for a new Dodge, Ram, used ICE vehicle, or occasional used EV these guys are worth checking out IMO.

That leads to a quick question, who are the top PPF installers we’re looking at these days? I’m looking for someone in the area from Longmont down to Westminster.

I hope to see some of y’all at Lafayette Cars and Coffee on August 5th.
If you want the XPEL kit that Rivian offers,

Took our R1T over Mosquito Pass from Alma to Leadville this week. This truck is so capable, it was a blast crawling over rocks and making hairpin turns in one shot. I did end up dinging one of my wheels on a rock at some point (doh!) But what's the point in having a truck if you can't do truck stuff? Oh well... Bring on more adventures!

Has anyone else in Colorado been denied coverage by Rivian Insurance? I am located in the Springs and called for a quote. They told me they are not writing policies in my area.

My current provider (State Farm) wants a ridiculous premium. More than my Tacoma and BMW coupe combined.

This is a bit disconcerting. So close to pulling the trigger on a truck from the shop.

No but my premium increased over 25% this year - writing insurance in Colorado is one of the most difficult states to write insurance in the nation.

I'm sure some of the recent hail storms are to blame, combined with the high repair costs. Still a bit strange, since the front range is a major location for deliveries. You'd think if they are delivering so many trucks in an area then they'd want to offer insurance for them in the same area ?‍♂.

I was declined by Rivian insurance 2 weeks ago as well (Denver). Same reason was given. AAA Colorado provided the most reasonable option for comparable coverage - including new car replacement (for 2 years) and OEM parts coverage.

I quoted with at least 8 companies - there was a $7,000 spread between the cheapest and the most expensive 6 month premium. I also received 2 additional denials (Hartford and Farmers). Farmers said it was due to horsepower >700 and I never bothered to call Hartford to find out why.

Thanks for the tip on AAA. I’ll continue to call around!

Is anyone using USAA in CO? Are you happy with their premiums?
