The email from the RMRC came out a bit ago. They're still doing a short trail run on Saturday and then this meetup at the RAN on Sunday.
Ya, I can't make anything on Saturday (nor do I have much interest in offroading, unfortunately) but going to try to make the meet-up on Sunday.

The secret is out for the future location of the Colorado Springs Service Center: 930 Newport Rd, Suite 100, Colorado Springs, CO 80916. https://goo.gl/maps/xhotW7LFdrbcYFoq5

You beat me to it. I just drove by this about 40 minutes ago on my way home from the C-Springs airport.
I would like to have seen some construction activity! But this is huge for southern Colorado and northern New Mexico.

Quick question for the Colorado crew while I wait in line for a Rivian chat...
I just received the email invitation to schedule a test drive, with a link to my account page. But in my account site, there is no link to schedule.
Do I need to call Denver SC directly, or Rivian customer service?
Thanks.

I got the same email, but don't see a link. Tried to call the Rivian general number, and am on hold still. If you get through, please let me know what they say.

I got through after 50 minutes. They said there is no link and it has to be scheduled via the central phone number. Their calendar only goes out to Aug 5, and Denver has no R1S openings, and I should call back next week.
Plenty of R1T openings are available.

Much appreciated. Hopefully they'll have a R1S available to test drive sOOn.

Hey fellas, just checkin’ in after enjoying my new/used R1T over the weekend. Just wanted to say that I saw a miracle over the weekend. I went to a traditional dealer that didn’t suck monkey nuts. That would be Christopher‘s Ram/Dodge in Golden.

This R1T will be the 50th vehicle I’ve bought over the years and this was, by far, the easiest transaction I’ve done. The R1T in question was originally listed for $85K. The sales manager claimed he had $77K into it (which sounds reasonable). I told him I had found them for as little as $79K and he immediately offered $80K. BTW, that negotiation was done over the phone. My wife and I drove over the next day, did an inspection and very long test drive. The sales reps admitted up front that they didn’t have any experience for Rivian so they kinda liked the mini demo I gave them.

Anyways, hands were shook, money was transferred, and I was out of there pretty quick. The finance guy didn’t try to upsell me on anything (not sure if they could have offered something). They did try to beat my financing from Navy Fed, but missed it by over a point. Anyways, it was a great experience.

So if you’re looking for a new Dodge, Ram, used ICE vehicle, or occasional used EV these guys are worth checking out IMO.

That leads to a quick question, who are the top PPF installers we’re looking at these days? I’m looking for someone in the area from Longmont down to Westminster.

I hope to see some of y’all at Lafayette Cars and Coffee on August 5th.

That’s my old truck. They were equally as easy to work with on my end when I needed to get back into a tow vehicle with more range. I was very pleasantly surprised as I’ve usually only had it that easy on custom build orders.

@Warmoth , I tried again today and got an R1S 1st Mile Drive slot for Aug 18. Tip: I was on hold on the phone for 30+ minutes. While holding, I tried the online chat, was connected in less than 5 min, and had the appointment a minute later.

Well shoot, struck out via chat. They said I have to wait and they'll call me when it's my turn. When asked the time frame they gave me a can response of trying to get everyone behind a R1 before delivery.

I ended up going the face to face and honest route. Met with the SC manager Friday afternoon, told him that the credit starts in July and he was able to help set up my pick up appointment for July 1. Their lot is really full so I was surprised they were able to accommodate me. The manager said they got 85 delivered from Normal, in one day last week.
Just now noticing that the electric truck credit (GVWR over 8,500) doesn't increase to 5,000 until 1/1/24 (as opposed to the electric vehicle credit, which increased to 5,000 on 7/1/23 for vehicles < 8,500 GVWR).

Supposed to take delivery next Saturday (picked from the shop), but this is giving me pause. $2,800 extra in my pocket to wait until 2024. Ugh.

yeah I noticed that too. Started a new thread about it. If you are able to keep it under $80k you would get more back waiting until January. But is it worth it to wait that lomg

Yeah, I'm under 80k regardless, since personally (I'm a CPA) I don't think the Rivian contract qualifies as binding under current IRS guidelines (Rivian's liability is limited to your deposit and deposit amount is likely not considered significant) - https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/credits-for-new-electric-vehicles-purchased-in-2022-or-before .

"
What is a written binding contract?
In general, a written binding contract :

  • is enforceable under state law, based on the state and relevant facts and circumstances, and
  • does not limit the damages a buyer or seller can receive for a breached contract, such as forfeiting a deposit or paying a pre-determined dollar amount or a percentage of the total contract price for the vehicle.
An indication of a binding contract is if a buyer has made a significant non-refundable deposit or down payment.

"

But that's a whole other can of worms - since that's just their current guidelines on what is written in the tax code (written binding contract not defined in the code). I think it would definitely be challenged if they enforce it. I'm going to just claim the new federal credit regardless, and possibly amend a couple of years down the road (have until 4/15/26 to amend) after seeing if they challenge these grandfathered credits and/or we get a tax court case on this. (Folks getting refunds has no bearing on whether the IRS will challenge them - refunds must be delivered timely after filing, and audits usually take a year or so to surface).

Being fully self-employed, it's just not worth the risk of triggering a full blown audit for me (which is a pain, and could or could not happen if they disagree with taking the full Federal credit). YMMV.
