Cheap Bed Rack Option

For those of you that use their R1T as a truck and are looking for a cheap rack, here is an option that fits. Not tremendous quality, not the simplest instructions, some tweaks needed to make it fit BUT it will do the job to carry long pieces of lumber and requires no permanent modifications to your truck. I wouldn't trust it with the rated 500-800 pounds but it is sturdy once installed. The key part is to install the C brackets upside down. You will not be able to use your retractable cover and/or use the channels for the cover however, the rack is easily removable once setup and easy to re-install.

Can't beat it for $200!

Can't beat $200 and it seems pretty decent quality! I ended up grabbing a Built Right rack from someone on the forums here, no way I'd pay the retail $1500 for it, but it's sure nice to have.

That's correct, no connection between the two parts

This cost a lot more, but I set up our builder/facilities maintenance person with a cap that he made a rack for. It’s significantly improved the utility of the truck we lease for him. These photos were from just after he made the racks. He now leaves a crossbar on the rear of the roof and made the wooden racks so they would line up with the Rivian rack.

If I’d seen an affordable option like yours we may have done that instead of spending $2k on the cap but it is sweet, and useful for other reasons.

I bought the same rack, mainly because the price was right and the height adjustment to match the roof crossbar height.

Only difference is I drilled some holes in the base plate and made some shim plates out of black cutting boards so I could use u-bolts to attach to the factory crossbar mounts.

Allows using the tonneau with the rack on.

Decent temp fix for light hauls, but flipping C brackets isn’t a feature, it’s a workaround. Kills your tonneau and channels. Don’t trust it near 500+ lbs.

Yea, you're totally right, the molle panels in the bed are Built RIght, the rack is Range

Wow, those are some beautifully made wooden racks! I was thinking about making a wood one too as I couldn't find a cheap rack. I don't have the wood skills to make them that nice. Lucky me after weeks of looking, I found this solution that works.

I was thinking about doing the same. Can you post close up pic of your modifications to the rack? What king/size U bolts and shims you used?
I don't plan to keeping the rack up but it would be nice to have a cleaner install and being able to use the tonneau cover

I don't have it installed right now, but I just used 30mm square u bolts, with a short unthreaded length, these are the ones:

Then I bought these cheap black cutting boards and cut into smaller rectangles to fit the base of the rack, notching out where the cross bar mount is since that sits proud of the bedrails. I think it needed 4 layers of these thin ones to clear. They are the same width as the rack baseplate.

If you center the rack on the cross bar mounts, the gear tunnel and tailgate buttons are not blocked.

This looks exactly like something I would be happy with. I seldom need to haul anything long, but this would let me haul longer stuff and keep my cover closed and tail gate up.
