I believe that was answered earlier/up-thread. IIRC, the answer was "December".
I was hoping for a smaller window than the whole month. It’s a long month. :)

Frankly, I doubt they know - given over seas logistics and holiday shipper madness.

EVsportline Thanks for innovations and hopefully calming the masses on this topic in the forums. A very nice option. Now I am assuming all apps are compatible on this device. I basically bought it to use Garmin Powerswitch, GAIA and OnX offroad? THese are able to be used right?

I was initially disappointed at the lack of CarPlay but now after using it in many rental cars and in my GF's Outback I can say that its cool when it works... but it often craps out and is glitchy and frustrating. It loses connection regularly and the interface is clunky imo.

I still use Google maps on my phone for routing in city traffic though :( The Rivian routing has no concept of LA traffic which is surprising given that the company has one of its biggest centers out here.

That is not everyone's experience. I can't say I have never had a problem, but on my F150 Lightning it works pretty well.

My wife has an R1S and it is very nice other than the lack of CarPlay. That would be a deal breaker for me.

The device uses CarPlay and Android Auto - so if the Garmin app works within Carplay or Auto (ie like Waze does), yes. There are no 'apps' on this device, to be clear.

I loved the second screen that was done for the Model 3/Y. That was integrated into the car.

Forgive my ignorance, but best as I can tell, other than providing a power source to the fuse box instead of the 12v plug directly below, this is not much different than using your phone instead? Given, this is cheaper, but has less function and still requires the use of your phone to operate?

Just trying to figure out if I'm gaining any features that I don't already have by using my phone mounted to the dash? Would certainly love a standalone system that doesn't need my phone to work. If it's that, then it has appeal?? If not, I'll just stick with using my phone I think.

Please help me understand the benefit over just using a phone? Thank you
Personally I believe CarPlay is far superior to just using your phone. The entire interface is bigger and designed for use in a car.

You are not just using phone apps that are made to look bigger. The apps are designed for use within CarPlay.

For example, I listen to a lot of podcasts. I use the app Overcast which is very good and it has a CarPlay app. When I get into my car I have quick full control of Overcast from CarPlay. All my podcasts are organized and I can easily start playing any of them and they resume from exactly the spot where I left off on my phone.

Rivian wants me to use Spotify or Amazon or some other BS to listen to podcasts. If I were to do that it would not sync with Overcast and each podcast would start from the beginning regardless if I am in the middle of it. I am forced to use their limited choice of crappy apps.

A similar analysis could be applied to dozens of other apps that are designed for CarPlay. Having completely separate apps on your car and your phone is ludicrous when something like CarPlay exists.

Implementing CarPlay would be trivial. Not including it is 100% driver hostile There is zero benefit to the driver by not including it.

I understand there is a business argument to rejecting CarPlay. That is to try to make money off their own system. It is a completely stupid argument, but I guess that is a matter of opinion.

I have an F150 lightning. CarPlay is fantastic. My wife has an R1S. The built in navigation and other apps is BS. There isn't even a button to activate Siri on a bluetooth connected iPhone.

I have an R1T with Max Pack still on pre-order. I absolutely will not proceed with that purchase without CarPlay. But I might consider it if it did have CarPlay (but I do love my Lightning).

Guess you won’t be getting an R1T as RJ (and Elon, for that matter), will never allow Apple CarPlay control of the UI.

I'm going beg all of you to please not let this thread be a CarPlay versus RJ debate thread. There are a thousand of those and we all know it's deeply divisive (and exactly zero minds have been changed by the debate). I promise whatever point you have to make on either side is not new.

There's a product here that folks will be interested in details & impressions of when available; let's keep things on topic to the product in question.

Reading more about it, I seem to be an outlier with my experience with carplay so far. It works sporadically in the Subaru and Pacifica rental vans I often end up with, however I am constantly referencing google/waze in the RIvian. After seeing the EV sportline's price on it is only $260 I went and reserved one. Appreciate everyone's feedback and thanks to EV sportline for making an affordable solution here.

@EV Sportline

Did you test the holder/mount in offroad environments?

This would be my main use If I get one. But I would want the mount to be solid while going offroad.

Main app would be OnX Navigation/Routing when offline the cellular network.

I was planning on getting an Android tablet and then mount it somewhere as using OnX on a phone is painful. This may fit the bill until Rivian decides to support OnX or Gaia.

@EV Sportline Dumb CarPlay/display question…. Is there a way to get a browser app running on this, without a lot of hassle or additional 3rd party media boxes?

Edit: Looks like the browser app, “Brave” runs on CarPlay.

mount is rock solid. I'll do some more offroad bouncing and report back, but the mount is not plastic :)

Been researching browser options and it appears the open source “Brave” browser is supported by CarPlay. Will have to test that out!
