Yeah, I’d get a lot more use out of a drawer in place of the speaker. I assume if the drawer had the same latch as the speaker it would also be locked when the vehicle is locked.



You know… people could store stuff, maybe even gloves, in this boxy drawer. Rivian should patent this since I feel like having a locking box for gloves could prove pretty popular in vehicles. Now, what should Rivian call it?

Personally, I would rather have a storage drawer than a camp speaker but that wouldn't have generated the same kind of excitement.

There are plenty of wireless speaker options. Would much rather have something similar to the dometic cooler.

I would be surprised if someone does not come up with an aluminum box that has the latch on the end to fit and lock in that location.

It might be too much, try a lower level charger. We have a portable fan that will not charge with the higher power iPad charge block but will with the lower iPhone block. I would assume it would have an indicator light on when charging.

Yeah it does, pulsing white. I thought that meant charging...I'm on a lower amp charger now, still pulsing white. Guess I'll put in a trouble call on the speaker... Since vehicle is there at SC now for other issues wonder how that'll work .

I would see what this does, the manual says max input is 30 watts at 5/9/15/or 20 volts. For sure the 50 watt charger would not work.

That’s not how charging works. You can use a higher wattage charger as long as it puts out a voltage the device supports. You’ll only draw what the device takes. Same reason I can charge my phone with a 96W laptop brick…. My phone can’t pull 96W, but that’s okay. It will pull the 15W or whatever it wants.

Our Land Rover has a console cooler and we use it a lot.

Seriously, I’d gladly pay for a glove box which takes the place of the camp speaker. I could keep the camp speaker charged on my own and store it in the frunk.

Tell that to the fan I referenced. Plugging it into a higher watt charger absolutely does not work, the lower watt charger does work.

Not arguing about it just simply stated the actual behavior that is 100% repeatable.

Yeah but you know you can't generate reviewer hype with a glovebox.

The speaker is a 'nice to have', but I'm sure the cost of developing it to ship/integrate with the vehicle is probably more than it was worth. And if it breaks is anyone looking to replace it with another OEM unit when bluetooth speakers are available from any maker for pretty cheap?

Yep, I use that same laptop charger to charge my phone... And happy to say, that after 9hrs on another charger, my speaker is now charged. Total time 36hrs to charge one cell.

Btw chargers negotiates/delivers 5v@2amp, or 12v@3amp, or [email protected]. So yes charger should have worked... In 3hrs.

Is anyone else's speaker experiencing lackluster volume? Ours definitely does not get that loud... maybe my expectations are just too high (Sonos and UE snob). My small cylindrical OG UE Boom Crystal Edition gets way louder than the Camp Speaker. The Camp Speaker does exhibit better audio quality at a lower volume, especially with the bass level - but the volume still fell short.

Seriously, I can see using the camp speaker with the lantern and I do see it supporting the adventure vehicle focus. If someone just creates and sells a glovebox I can buy to put in place of the speaker then I’d consider that a win since I can manage storing and charging myself.

What leaves me scratching my head is why they chose that location for the speaker in the first place. The camp speaker doesn’t benefit from being within reach of the driver and I wonder why they didn’t put the dock for it in the frunk. If you’re only using the speaker outside, if you want it stored in a secure location where it can charge automatically, and if you want the location to be consistent across both R1 vehicles then the frunk (maybe lower level) seems like a better choice to me if it gives drivers more secure reachable interior storage to make up for the lack of a traditional glove box.

We all have different priorities but I suspect that most drivers value storage they can reach for things they use inside the car more than a speaker they can reach which is almost always going to be used outside the car.
