+100 to that Sonos comment, would have been great with the trucks hotspot creating the network and then the camp speaker in conjunction with other portable Sonos speakers would have been great. Really love all mine.

Also it’s a shame the firmware is so bad because the speaker really does sound good for its size. I’ve had mine out of the truck for a few months now because it’s just too unreliable

It doubles as a portable charger, which I would mainly use for. They sell boxes with the locking mechanism and everything but a big reason I didn't want it was so that it doesn't turn into another thing full of stuff we don't need. I only liked it because I saw someone use it as a trash can, which made sense to me, but then you have trash in there for who knows how long.

Am I seeing right that some of the foam has melted due to heat on top of the Thundercomm chip?

When I took it apart the foam adhesive was attached to the chip. I thought the same thing than realized it was adhesive on the chip.

Impressed by the build quality. What made you change your mind about using it as a box?

Two things 1 keep it original if I decided to trade up (or down perspective) on the RS1, just to it all is original to my purchase. 2 I would have to dremel a lot of plastic just to get about a 5” box. Removing any unnecessary plastic would mean that I would need to modify the way the outer covers attach.

Were you able to find the bugs while you had it apart? Mine is teeming with them.

I didn’t find any, I got to say it was a bit of a challenge trying not to just pry things apart. So many Torx screws and adhesive parts.

Thanks for posting. The Camp Speaker is clearly way overengineered for what it is, and makes me think they intended so much more for it. Thundercomm is a chinese Qualcomm offshoot that makes SOCs out of QC processors as well as development boards for QC. The TurboX C404 is made for a very, very smart speaker with built-in AI capabilities.

From the pictures, it looks like the speaker grills are just attached magnetically? Is there anything glued or welded or is this reversible? I've been meaning to take mine apart mostly to reverse engineer that speaker dock accessory connection for other ideas, but also because the speaker just sits dead in my garage as when it's stored in the car it malfunctions so often and will unexpectedly play noises or randomly connect to your phone from thin the house. It badly needs a firmware update, and now we know why, as it's running a system much more complicated than a typical bluetooth audio device.

The grills are snap on. Funny i thought about the same thing how can I modify the case without totally destroying it, in my case.

Thx for the photos. From the tear down could you determine how the three contacts work to charge it and how it tells the vehicle it’s in correctly to be locked?

So I don’t use the camp speaker mostly due the fact I already have plenty of other bluetooth speakers. I just don’t need another one, so I thought what if I could convert the camp speaker into a usable box. Well I didn’t but I did tear it down. I ended up putting back together to keep everything original.
