Yes, and no to must have. Especially at $2,000. I have a Lagoon Pearl Blue Subaru. And while it was handy for spotting in the parking lot, I think I’ll go for Glacier White. Love the contrast to black, and a bit more subtle. And the extra $1K can get me 20” wheels, or a spare tire.

Or maybe Forest Green?

When I first put down my reservation, it was my color of choice. Then over time, I began wondering if my love for the color would slowly wane over time since it is so much different and bold. Then I saw Catalina Cove in person and figured it was a good middle-ground and I fell in love with how it looks when in the sun, shade, etc. I definitely didn't want a silver, black or white car. As much as I like the two greens, I swore to myself that I would never again own a green car after my first car was a used olive-green Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Since you asked for forum opinions, here's mine:

Bold? meh. Red and Yellow are bold. Purple...?
Attention grabber? Definitely. But so is this.
For the Ladies? I think "ladies" like all sorts of stuff. Some might like it and some may not. FWIW, my wife doesn't like Borealis...
Very unique and distinctive? Sure... but same response at the "attention grabber" line.

You see where this is going. If you like it more than any other color, go for it. Personally, I am only reminded of this and this every time I see Borealis.

I just want lighter colors because they need less maintenance. All the colors are too dark except for the white and even the silver isn't like la silver. Where are our bright yellows reds greens and blues? Borealis is cool but again too dark

I can't sort it out either...

For me it's a must have because it's my favorite color an it is rare I get to choose a color I really want. I am only getting launch edition because it is only available on performance. That being said, I think its beautiful. I think it will be unique just like Rivian's headlights and I like things that are unique and easily identifiable. Since its a car I plan to keep for the next decade, I want to live with something that resonates with me and won't have regrets about.

My only question is, how much longer must I wait?

The videos taken at the launch and SXSW usually showed the color in direct sunlight. That being said, if you see the color in the shade or in overcast conditions, you'd be hardpressed to realize it's purple from a distance, or even right up next to it. Here are a couple of photos I took of an R1T, one from the shaded side, and one with the direct sunlight to show the difference.

So, yes, it is "bold" if the lighting is right, but it also blends in more than you'd expect when overcast or shaded.

That said, Borealis is what we're getting. I do like "bold" colors and don't want to blend in with every other black, white, silver, and gray vehicle.

The borealis is not for me, but I like that Rivian puts a bold choice out there. Heck, if the R2 came in Canyon Red, I'd seriously be tempted.

As a person who generally likes Blue, I've never really likes the hues of Rivian Blue or Catalina Cove. I can't quite place it, but both have seemed a but off to me in bring light.

One of my neighbors has a borealis r1t. It's darker in person and less barney like, IMHO.
