Since you want 3PMSF, suggest you stick with the Goodyears and keep the 116H XL rated tire which meets Rivian spec. But, it would also be great if you tried the BFGs (without 3PMSF), do they have a 30 day trial where you could return them if you wanted to? I think you will end up with more noise than you want if you get BFGs, at least from my experience…

I've basically ruled out the Goodyears at this point. I wanted to like them, and I get that they're designed *for* the R1 and have lots of great performance characteristics, but their tread wear characteristics (~1 mm/2000 miles with a starting tread depth of 10.8) just annihilates them for consideration in my book. You may come to a very different conclusion, and that's fine. We each prioritize things differently. For me, the prospect of needing to replace them in 20 - 25K miles is a no-go. At that price/mile, the Toyo Open Country AT III EV makes way more sense.

I'm still temptedby the BFG Trail-Terrains, but giving up the 3PMS and possibly seeing poor wet stopping performance (which *really* matters when it matters most) is hard to take. I'd love to see some real-world efficiency numbers for them, but so far haven't found any, so...

I'm now trying to decide between the Nitto Nomad Grapper (more like the Goodyear Wrangler Territory in most respects, plus a 60K warranty) or the Nitto Terra Grapper G3 (likely a better AT tire for off-road, but still with good on-road manners and a 70K warranty). That discussion probably belongs in a different thread, though.

I should count my blessings, though. It seems like the real difficulty is that there are several good options and not one clear winner (yet). That's so much nicer than the alternative!

The Goodyears are a hard no for me due to terrible tread wear. I don’t care about efficiency if I’m forced to buy a second set at 30,000 miles, that’s ridiculous. I’m at 57,300 miles on my Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLTs and they’re still nearly as quiet as new. Wear has been excellent and they’ve performed outstanding in every condition I’ve thrown at them. Efficiency at 65psi is close to the OEM 20's. Just had them rotated at Discount, and they said I should easily get another 7,500 miles out of them.

Thanks for the info! More info is always a good thing, and I’m glad those Coopers have worked out so well for you.

Looks like the Coopers are available in 275/65R20, but not in 275/60R20. I’ve been pretty focused on a 33” tire, though for a more purely AT/off-road application a taller tire with more sidewall is preferred I suppose.

They are not known for longevity, but due for replacement at 6,750 mi... something else is amiss. Driving habits, ride heights, out-of-spec alignment... all possible factors.

I'm sorry. That is ridiculous and I tried shouting this for quite some time, but the 'tasty morsel' of efficiency often times drowns out the reality of an ill-prepared engineering solution. Many are replacing at 20,0000 - 30,000 miles.

I got the Trail Terrains in 275/60/20 and am happy with the first 100 miles. I had the Goodyear Wrangler Territory’s and they lasted 31k miles. Handling, efficiency and noise seem comparable in this first 100 miles. Total price installed at Costco was $1174 which seems fair
