I was actually impressed with how well a couple of those kits worked. I've been pretty lucky, never getting a cracked windshield, but would definitely consider fixing it if my insurance doesn't cover the repair. I have Costco Connect... anyone know if it is included?

It depends on what state you are in. In NY, all glass is covered without a deductible. In NJ it is not, and you'll have to pay the deductable first.

Any recommendations on fixing this chip? It is close to penny in size. It was part of my service request earlier and Rivian's recommendation was replacement & quoted me $1700. I have to pay OOP but insurance will pay me back (excluding $50 deductible).

According to the video, the Permatex is the best option below the professional kit. Try it first before replacing the windshield.

When you say Penny Size, does that include the striations or fingers coming off the chip. If so, I think one of those kits will work. Rivian SC will always suggest replace over repair to minimize risk of liability.

Also, I would drive by your local Safelite and have them inspect it. They charge about $135 to repair according to google if you pay out of pocket.... or your insurance company might pay free of charge.

Including the fingers, it is around 1cm in size. Let me double check with my insurance, if they cover the charges I can better get it done by professionals.

googled it, not sure the accuracy, but this website which rates connect Very low, says repairs are covered.

the hilaious thing is they show connect to be the most expensive, and if I switch the Rivian and my wifes car, we'd save $2k for the year

In Calif, Connect covers filling windshield chips, cracks through Safelite at no charge. I actually have an appointment today to get a chip filled I found while washing my car over the weekend.

I have Costco connect and I was told it’s not covered. I would have to make a claim and pay the deductible.

I used the Permatex .. got it from autozone. Wasn’t bad at all.

size of a penny? That might be too large.. with those runners, I’d replace the windshield with Rivian stamped glass …

Looks similar to mine (starburst). Safelite told me they'd need to replace the windshield, which is an issue since they can't get the part (yet). Also requires recalibration at SC. Certified Collision center wants $2900, which includes towing to/from SC.

I stabilized the crack using a Permatex kit like mentioned above. Seemed to reduce the appearance by 50%.
