Had an awesome time this week in Florida visiting family. St. Augustine beach was close by and we drove the public beach road three times over three days. Couldn't get enough of how fun and easy it was to drive in soft sand mode. No airing down necessary as this 10 mile stretch is regularly driven on and packed down enough for plenty of traction even when stopping and starting if you stay on the "lanes". We deviated into untouched sand several times and the R1S did great at keeping itself moving and never struggled once. It was so nice to pack light and park on the beach after finding an empty spot and jump right out to let the kids run around with the R1S as home base for drinks, snacks and shade/AC.

Looking forward to another trip this summer!

Fun fact: there are only 3 places along the East Coast that allow driving on the beach: St. Augustine FL, Daytona Beach FL and Hatteras NC. Can't wait for the new RAN location in the Outer Banks!

Not just Hatteras Island, but many other places in the Outer Banks as well. You can drive in Nags Head in the off season if you get a pass, which I did. Carova Beach is only accessible via the beach and has a housing development with only sand roads. Of course since people live there it is sand/beach driving year round.

Pic dump from my first real off-road trail ride in the R1S in North Georgia. Nothing too crazy, but the Nimblewill Gap to Old Bucktown Rd trail was really fun last month!

Continuing the catch-up: Recently installed the FrontPet Cargo Cover. For $75 this offers a lot more protection and coverage than the more expensive options that are custom tailored to the R1S. It fits perfectly! Ready for dirty gear, dogs and whatever else needs hauling around this summer.

Meeting new friends, seeing old friends, and miles of winding trails with the coolest trucks; a gaggle of R1’s, built Jeeps, Toyotas, Fords, Rovers all wheeling together on both man made and natural obstacles with wide-open race cars wailing in the distance. Jzilla Dirt Day and Barberque at Barber Motorsports Park is a unique driving event unlike any I’ve ever been to. The fact that the thrills of driving off-road and on a track can be had in one weekend… ?‍?. It was a hot one, but a good one. Can’t wait to go back with more Georgia Rivian Club members!

After two separate irreparable sidewall nail punctures in the span of two months of just daily driving around Atlanta, it was time to have a better option than just a plug kit and a can of Fix-a-flat. When I initially pre-ordered the R1S in September 2021, I had the OEM Compact Spare configured. Once deliveries began and the ancillary options were removed from all builds as a post-delivery purchase, it took a while for Rivian to build up stock of these compact spares and offer them to customers. Thankfully since I had it configured at the original $450 price, that was honored for this purchase. Interesting to note the change to a foam insert from the original plastic housing for the tool kit. Since this has now been purchased and equipped, I’ll never get another tire puncture…right? ?

Year 1 in the books with 14.7k miles since delivery. Three years since making the reservation and patiently waiting the following two years as production spun up and now there are over 100k of them on the road. Seeing more and more out there every day- including today where the owner of the pub we were going to pulled up in his Forest Green R1S. Looking forward to another year of adventures!

Just picked up a pair of silicone tow hook covers as they're now available Amazon at a reasonable $14. Getting closer to then Gen2 OEM Darkout Package now, but I'll likely stop here. I'm not sold on the black badging on a black R1, but since they're no longer available from the aftermarket anyways, I'm content.

Not pictured, but the 12v battery was replaced today by mobile service after having the warning persist in the dash/app for the past 9 days. I checked the voltage in the RiDE menu every day and it held at exactly 13.4v and never dipped below that and thankfully never completely died, so I'm pleased that the latest software has what seem to be some protections in place to preserve it when it detects a voltage drop. I did experience extra drain on the HV battery over that period of about 3-4% per day as the vehicle never went to sleep, despite it driving and charging normally each day. Hoping the new 12v battery can last more than 1 year going forward, but the service experience was painless and I always enjoy chatting with techs about the latest Rivian news.

I took the opportunity to throw in a BestEVMod HEPA cabin filter while the tech had the front cowl cover off to replace the battery, as it was most convenient to do so. No issues with that either.

Onwards!

Bye bye camp speaker! Hello @BestEvMod(AOSK) locking storage drawer! This finally makes the space much more usable day to day. Great place to keep a NACS DC adapter... if I had one.

Gorgeous rig! Happy 1st Riviversary. What are those extended drink holder insert things in your last picture there? I've got a Yee Pin organizer, but the cup holder holes are massive and needs some kind of insert unless you're only ordering big gulps all the time.

Edit: NVMD, it's in your lead post:
  • BestEvMod Lower Console Organizer + Cup Holders

Yep I just updated the OP, since I forgot to update this thread when I ended up ditching the Yee Pin for the BestEVMod unit. It's significantly better at... holding cups! The only downside to it with the camp speaker drawer is that you have to pull the cup holder tray up to get the drawer all the way out. You can still slide the drawer forward enough to reach in without moving the cup holders, though.

Missed this pile after a lengthy visit at the service center for some revised AC and suspension parts to quiet things down significantly. Appreciate the continued improvements on the hardware side for Gen1. Being such a quiet vehicle, you notice a lot of the NVH from ancillary hardware outside of the drive units. Post-production re-engineering and parts revisions that trickle down to service bulletins are often a welcomed gift to pedants like me.

Also had these new crossbars waiting to go on yesterday. They blend in with the black better and have a more traditional shape, which I dig. ?
