Compared to my home versions of Alexa, the R1S gen 1 quad version seems “stupid”. I ask questions which result in a non answer-finally, I asked the same questions at home and the results are night and day. Am I missing a setting or an upgrade to that? It’s the same account so I’m perplexed.
thanks!

No you are not missing anything. Alexa in the Rivian is a subset of the Alexa you have at home. Some people have found it useful, others never found it useful or it didn't work for them. Either way, the general opinion is that it recently got worse, not sure why.

This thread discusses the fact that Rivian appears to be moving away from Alexa and transitioning to Google Voice.

This evening I completed Rivian's survey to new owners and there was a set of questions regarding the Voice Assistant feature. I wrote that I avoided using it due to privacy concerns. That seems to be a common concern based on the fact that the next page of questions dealt with privacy concerns and the Voice Assistant.

At one point I wrote that I am barely comfortable with Apple and Siri, and Siri isn't exactly the leading digital assistant anymore.

When asked what it would take to use the voice assistant, I wrote that I would need a guarantee that what I said would stay in the vehicle and be processed locally, and that at no point would any personally identifying data be used by anyone, anywhere, anytime for any reason whatsoever.

See, it's simple. Imagine Luke and R2. In the fictional story, is R2 online somewhere uploading the recorded conversation to be processed by a server farm, that is then saved, analyzed, cataloged, queried and used to identify Luke demographically, and select a marketing strategy that is most likely to appel to Luke so he can purchase a new set of motivators for his astromech droids? And if so, is it any wonder he wants to join the Rebellion?

Ahhh, so my understanding of these replies is that "yes" the Rivian version is not up to her sister's capacity as a result of potentially beoing replaced by something better that could posibly read texts too and offer moe. Both worth wating for, now I understand. Thanks all.

It's complete garbage, and every time they say they have improved it, it gets worse.

I thought they were instead going to way of Rivian Assistant (which I dunno, might end up being Gemini under the hood)?

In any case, Alexa is really, really bad, and I'm pretty tolerant of technology.

"Alexa, navigate home." "I'm sorry, you don't have that destination saved, but you can do so in the app when it's safe to do so."

"Alexa, play X song on Spotify." "I'm sorry, Spotify isn't available."

It's like outside of answering random questions, there's no integration with the car at all.

Rivian Assistant is supposedly using Gemini. Alexa commands that worked for me for several years have stopped working, similar to what you mention.

"Alexa open the front trunk" is the only thing that works 100% for me. Lighting? Nah. Tailgate? Nope.

Break up with Alexa. Tell her, "it's you, not me." And twins (gemini in latin) are more... fun?

Hopefully, it's going to be upgraded in a very near update by being replaced with Rivian Assistant. If RA is 20% effective it'll be a massive improvement.
