The next, or upcoming, app update enables triggering the alarm, opening the frunk, and closing the windows. Maybe this will come along in conjunction with the next vehicle software update which fixes the alarm. Very nice to see the app gain more functionality!

For those who can’t see the Instagram post, it’s a video showing the new app features.

Having a Model 3, I really miss a lot of those controls Tesla integrated down the road. I'm sure Rivian will do the same in time but closing windows from the app is a great start.

This one, that one and the other one.

Now add a slider bar to set the charging level at anywhere between 50% to 100%, so we can change it from the app. Also need the ability to start/stop charging from the app.

If they're adding frunk control capability, seems like they should also add gear tunnel door and tailgate open features as well. Then your phone can truly act as a key fob and then some.

Nice additions to have, hope they eventually let us do it all....Changing the suspension height from the app would be the coolest feature for showing off!

They may not want to enable remote gear tunnel and tailgate opening because they're more likely to hit an obstruction -- a person, vehicle, tree, wall, whatever. Better to limit those to situations where someone is physically present at the vehicle to control things.

They've already said coming soon (at least in vehicle). I thought they said that was by end of summer, i.e. next week, but we'll see.

When I open my gear tunnel or tailgate from the dash or fob, they don't open. They just "pop" and then I have to manually open. Is that not the case with everyone else's trucks?

So I'm curious, what are people's use cases for controlling the frunk, alarm and windows from the app? I can't personally think of a situation I would use any of them. I welcome any and all additions, I'm just interested in other perspectives on these.

The only time I open the windows in general is at a drive through, so I'm not a great audience for that one.

I can't think of opening the frunk when I'm not at the vehicle, in which case it's easier to just push the button. I could perhaps see if you weren't there, and you needed someone to get you something out of the frunk, but didn't want to unlock the entire vehicle (assuming that is the protocol with this feature), you could do that. But I can't imagine that ever being a thing. If I trust them to access and bring me something from the frunk, I would trust them to just unlock the vehicle for them so they could open it.

No idea why you'd sound the alarm manually, remotely or otherwise. I'm guessing this is for females and is a replacement for the panic alarm feature on a key fob, which a lot of people won't be carrying on them?

My gear tunnels do not “open” but my tailgate drops, which is what it is supposed to do.

Definitely the case with the tunnel, you don't want that to fall down. The tailgate is supposed to fall down, but oftentimes doesn't. None of these are things I see any value in opening from anywhere but the point of question.

Gear tunnel is "pop" only no matter what. It does not have a mechanism for automatic lowering. Tailgate for me is hit or miss. Most times it lowers all the way from the dash or fob though. Most of the times that it has failed to lower completely is from pushing the button on the truck.

Closing the windows is nice because if you forget to close them (some people do this frequently, especially if they have dogs) you can close them without having to return to the car.

Triggering the alarm can be helpful if you’re trying to locate the truck in a large parking lot and you’ve forgotten where exactly you parked.

Opening the frunk…I don’t know. But I wouldn’t be surprised if in the future there is integration with in-vehicle delivery services. I can’t see myself ever opening the frunk unless I want someone to grab something out of it and don’t want to deal with giving them my phone and trying to explain where the button is.

The gear tunnel door doesn‘t open all the way now when you activate the button and so you shouldn’t expect it to with a software/app update.
