Can you believe it's been a month? It feels like just yesterday I was dressed in fancy clothes for a Kentucky Derby party but needed to make a small detour to pick up my truck from the Denver Service Center.

But indeed, a month has gone by. I've put around 800 miles on the truck. I had surgery and was down and out for a week or so. Life goes by fast. Sometimes it goes 0-60mph in about 3 seconds. Actually, when you have a new Rivian, that happens a few times a week.

Here's my review in a nutshell - This thing is amazing. It's worth the wait. It's worth the price. It's worth putting up with the nonsense that is Rivian's delivery lottery. It's worth dealing with the terrible communication.

Unlike me, it's not perfect.

Some brief updates since I've taken delivery:
-I PPFed the whole front, hood, front quarter panels, mirrors, etc.
-I ceramic tinted the front windows to match the rears
-My crossbars were delivered about a week after I got the truck
-I took the little R1T badge off the tailgate

Let's start with the good. First and foremost, the interior is really excellent. High quality, luxurious materials. Everyone who's gotten a ride (and trust me, you end up giving lots of rides to friends/neighbors/family/strangers) have commented on how great the interior is. The seats are very comfortable, the sound system is very good, it's generally really quiet (except for some wind noise at 50mph+). Here's the rest of what I love so far:
  • It's crazy fast, but you already know this
  • Suspension soaks up most bumps really well, especially at highway speeds
  • The 20" off-road tires are extremely quiet, and surprisingly capable in the twisties
  • Garage door opener works great
  • So. Much. Storage.
  • No issues with powered toneau cover
  • No major issues in general
  • Averaging about 2 miles per kWh
  • Gear tunnel is the perfect size for storing my golf clubs and a softball bag
  • The launch green is glorious. So many people comment on how they love it and how unique it is.
  • Driver+ works great on all the interstates around me. Significantly better than the autopilot 2 in my wife's Volvo
  • Overall build quality is higher than I expected for a company/vehicle so new

But no vehicle is perfect, and the R1T is no exception. Here come my complaints. All are minor. Some were known in advance, but are still annoying. Some were surprising.
  • No AA/CP/SiriusXM. Yes, this is well known. No, I'm still not ok with it. I think it's stupid I need to open and use Waze on my phone when I have such an amazing screen just sitting unused right on the dashboard.
  • Suspension, while really good at speed, is surprisingly "clanky" going over sharp bumps at lower speeds. I don't know how to describe it. There is an audible and physical rattle/shake if you hit small, sharp bumps. I have service ticket in, but I get the feeling I'll be told it's normal. I do not remember such a noise/feeling from the test drive vehicle.
  • The lane keep assist is annoyingly aggressive. I've turned both the warning and the assist off completely.
  • Wind noise is pretty high at any speed above 50 mph.
  • I have a tendency to scrape my knee on the speaker grill of the door when exiting. I assume this is unique to me and my long legs and insistence on wearing shorts as often as is humanly possible - combined with not being able to open the door fully due to my garage constraints
  • I'm getting tired of having people take my photo :). I mean, it's constant. Window tinting has made this more tolerable.
  • I've started needing to plan ahead to arrive early to any public events/activities/parking lots. This is sarcasm. I actually enjoy engaging with people and showing them around. But seriously, get to places early. I'd say 80% of the time if there are people around, they'll want to talk to you and check out the truck.

And finally - a couple of service items. I just submitted a service request this morning, so we'll see how the process and experience goes.
  • Frunk won't open without manual assistance - it thinks something is blocking it
  • Steering wheel shakes/vibrates at 70mph+. Probably a wheel balance problem
  • There's some interior headliner molding that doesn't like to go around curves - so it bows out near the corners of 3 out of 4 windows
  • Charge port cover needs to be aligned better
  • And, as mentioned above, the suspension and wind noise...noises
UPDATE: Provided my service experience with trying to get the above issues resolved here: Service Experience

Dollar for dollar, I can't think of a better vehicle for my money. It's everything it was supposed to be, and more.

I love it.

Awesome!!

Quite a few reports of steering wheel shake at higher speeds are starting to surface.
Are they not high-speed balancing the wheels at the factory?

I had that on my (used) i3 when I purchased it. I brought it to a tire shop for 4 wheel balance job... solved that problem instantly.

Truck looks great! What tint did you use on the front? I think it is probably the best front tint job I have seen...

Bravo Cohall!

Rear tailgate pics partially debaged, please?

My OCD would have those garden tools off the wall pronto. Maybe add some velvet wallpaper. Just sayin. Full disclosure, my garage aint that orderly.

I’ve secretly been stalking you on the forums and following your delivery trials and tribulations. I live in CO Springs and took delivery one day prior to you (also a Denver Service center pick-up). I now have about 3500 miles on my beast. I also have almost the same list of goods/bads that you do. I don’t have the frunk issue, but my tonneau cover took a dump a few days ago.

I am especially curious to hear what the service folks have to say about the clunky suspension. I have the same thing and was unfortunately told it was normal.

Super glad you are enjoying your ride. Like you, I feel the positives far outweigh the annoyances.

Congrats, and happy trails!

"There's some interior headliner molding that doesn't like to go around curves - so it bows out near the corners of 3 out of 4 windows"

This was pointed out to me at pickup and I was told "this is on all of them and we can't fix it". fwiw

Let me know if they tell you differently.

Excellent write up. The only thing that bugs me is owners reporting a clunky suspension. I will be curious what they find as the root cause. No $75k truck buyer is going to accept that as normal.
