And, the other tidbit...

"Next year, Rivian will launch a new bidirectional charging feature that allows people to use their vehicles as mobile power generators to send power to electronic devices, other EVs, or even their own home."

Next year unfortunately never comes....

Edit. For clarity, I removed the link referencing an older article.

Bro, that article is almost a year old...
If you're joking then yes, technically the promise is 2 years old, otherwise, it's from the same article talking about the Energy App, from today June 2nd 2025, the link was an additional reference in the article.

The linked article is but referenced in a recent conversation with Wassym released today showing still in play.

A "prepare for fast charging button"!?

I'm curious how that works, typically when you route to a charger, it preconditions technically in a way that's more efficient and takes the time of arrival into account.

With manual preconditioning, is it just going full out on the system to get to that fast charge ready state within 10-15 minutes?

That's not at all how I took it. I didn't set any recent quotes by Wassym about it, only a reference by the author to an old article.

The link to the article is in a new article, sure, but there is no new information or even confirmation by Wassym in the newer article.

Good question. I would assume it has to be timed as you suggested. I can’t imagine it working any other way🤷🏼‍♂️

We read it differently, I could be wrong but the previous sentence was Ben said, I took the subsequent sentence about bi-directional charging to be an extension of that since it was not a new paragraph. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part.

To be honest, these days the reliability in any article is shoddy at best. I tend to fall on the hopeful/positive of any ambiguous statements when I read them. 😉

The only thing he references is the Smart Charging feature:

But this update is just the beginning of Rivian’s planned improvements to the charging experience. Bensaid says that in the coming month, the company will roll out a new “Smart Charging” feature that allows customers to time their home-charging sessions to save money on their energy bill, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce their carbon footprint. Next year, Rivian will launch a new bidirectional charging feature that allows people to use their vehicles as mobile power generators to send power to electronic devices, other EVs, or even their own home.
