I was glad to see the Rivian did a good job protecting the occupants and now the owner is replacing their Rivian with another Rivian.

To me this speaks volume about the brand / product and similar to what they said on FB, Rivian should focus more on promoting / advertising safety features that parents value.

I hope the R2 is built like a tank too.

What’s the deal with all the rear-end accidents involving R1’s?
Personal opinion with zero data to back it up???...........Poor calibration on the brakes lights and one pedal driving. It's possible to slow a LOT without triggering the rear lights. Enough to catch less than prepared other drivers out when not paying attention.

Could have something to do with people changing lanes using driver assist. When it pulls in behind another, closer car, it slows rapidly to increase the distance between itself and the car in front. It does this regardless of how far a trailing car might be behind it.

Sorry, kwik, I don't believe that in this case. Judging by the crumpling in front, that truck was going 30 or 40 miles per hour or more faster than the Rivian. Regen can't do that. That's at a stop sign, grog. It's pretty obvious what happened, and it didn't involve driver assist. DA wouldn't work on that road anyway.

Doubtful there is anything R1 specific here. I was rear-ended twice over the years in my Volvos - both times sitting at a complete standstill (once at a stoplight, once in stopped traffic due to a traffic jam). The most common problem is drivers not having eyes on the traffic in front of them.

Extremely unlikely in this case considering the accident happened at a stop sign. The Ford should have been slowing down to stop even if the R1 wasn't there. Most likely the Ford driver was distracted.

People don't pay attention.
Many newer cars have radar/sensors which alert the driver and apply brakes. Still a lot of older cars with inattentive drivers.

I was rear ended in traffic on the freeway a few years ago. Turns out the driver who hit me had the same accident a few years earlier.

Not particularly offering a solution for this exact situation. That truck driver was clearly going too fast for traffic/conditions. Was more offering a thought on the higher perceived rate of rear collision incidents with R1's.

I agree that in some cases the regen braking can be a bit too abrupt, even in the lowest setting. However, in this case I agree with the majority that F150 driver was distracted or impaired.
My observation is that the majority of accidents posted here are from being rear-ended.

I agree with you. There has to be more at play here. I've NEVER seen as many rear-end collision posts on other forums as I have on this one. Heck, I can't remember the last time I saw anyone post that their Grand Cherokee was rear-ended on the Jeep forum. I even did a quick search and couldn't find one LOL.

You can watch the dash to see when brake lights come on. In my R1T gen 1 it is immediate if you take your foot off the accelerator or reduce acceleration at all.

Front crumple zones did their job in the truck, same would happen to a Rivian if it rear ended someone in the same situation.

Almost everyone in my area (GA) drives while having their phone in their hand, or eating or shaving, or putting on makeup. Just nuts on the morning commute, people driving 70, 75, 80 in a 60 while distracted obviously weaving from left to right of their lane. I just stick to the right at 65-70 and let them by.
