New shoes! Nokian Outpost Tires on Rivian 22" wheels

I was pretty happy to find that Nokian now has the outpost in 275/50/22. I can only assume this is a recent add to their stable of sizes. It’s actually not even listed on their site.

I’ve been a big fan of this brand for a while as others have noted they were the first ones to develop a snow tire back in the day.

They are priced super reasonable, look fantastic and meet the speed, load, ratio, size ratings perfectly for the RS1.
Did I mention I think they look fantastic?

I took these pictures backing out of the stall from the installation. I will report back when I have any real data. I’ve seen a couple reviews. They were pretty quiet and they are purportedly an EV biased tire so I have unreasonably a high expectations.

Nice! I'm looking for new tires and really like the look of these. If they meet your expectations, then definitely adding them to my short list!

Yes, I had hit the treadwear marker on the OEM set at just under 28,000. Which I thought was OK based on what I understand about those tires.
I’ve been looking for a while and the Rivian shop wanted $2600 to put another set of Perelli’s on.

I did want a more aggressive, all-terrain. In fact I wanted to go to a set of 20s …my spouse advised me that that was not gonna happen as it is her car she likes the 22 wheel.

Choices get pretty limited on a 22 and all-terrain. I just happened upon these in a configurator and I pounced.

I have run the Nokian tire on many vehicles and I appreciate its capabilities as an all weather tire. But I have never run outpost so we will see and I hope to report back soon. We’re running out to Denver at the end of the week so that’ll be a good 16 hours on the tires should have some information then.
The bonus is that I got them put on and all set up for right under 1500 which is 1100 under my service center advisors price for the Perelli’s . I think that represents a good value if the tire performs well.

We’ve had the nAT in the 20” for about 15k miles now. Love them. Fantastic in the snow. Quiet. Look great. Good in our limited off-roading. We’ve probably see about a 5% hit in efficiency versus the OEM pirellis, but totally worth it. we just passed 80% wear marker, so guessing we’ll see well over 50k miles out of these.

15k miles in on mine and still super quiet. Couldn’t say that about the OEM Pirellis

My 20" OEM Pirellis got pretty loud over time. My 22" Pirellis are still reasonably quiet, but they are nearing their end of life. They will need to be replaced this summer.

Yeah - my 20” ATs were horrible at about 15k miles and by 20k I couldn’t take it anymore.

I do love the looks but that’s prolly #3 on my list here.
In my experience nothing grips like the Nokian. ( upper Midwest. Lots of ice, snow, some rain all in season) the Nokian is more than an all season in my experience again.
#1 grip /stability. ( 3mpksf)

#2 specs
This tire is one of the few (that I have found)that are spot on 275/50/r22.
This tire again is one of the few rated for H 130mph and 115 (2679 #)per tire. 60k warranty ( like tire warranties matter. Shrugs) Nokian also mentions this is for EVs not sure why sorry.

#3 I’ll take looks over quiet admittedly. Aggressive enough tread and looks. They are much quieter than the KO2’s I had on my old wrangler. But I do not find the Rivian cabin all that quiet in my experience. The wind noise is worse than the tire noise imho.

#4 range. I do go long distances so range is important. I am ok with a 3 to 5 percent hit but I am hopeful actually since the are the same size as the OEMs that the weight would be the impactful variable here. Leading to in my ‘I have been awake since 2:30 am so probably missing key aspects of a real theory that holds water’ reason that it could potentially be less of an impact.

#5 Value for the price I believe I got a lot of tire.

Time will tell as it often does in the tire game. Just what I decided to go with for me.

We've had our 20's for almost 30k and can still see the 60% marker. I think they'll go longer. Very happy with these through the winter. Considered another set of snows, but decided we didn't need them after the first real snow. I mean you want to slide a little, no?!
