I have a trip coming up in two weeks that I will be towing my enclosed 7x14ft trailer with my enduro motorcycle in it. I did a 15 mile test run today. I’m using ABRP to calculate the route using .8 mi/kWh as a consumption baseline.

What were the conditions on your drive? Looks like you got quite a bit better than your assumptions.

That's a nice trailer. How do you like it? What brand/how much do those run? I'm going to need something for a snowmobile next winter and that looks like it might fit the bill.

Agree with @Davethadog your mi/kwh seems pretty good

Mostly flat country roads with cruise set to 60mph. Temps were in the mid 40s. Although, If you look at the picture with my trip data, the truck thinks it is -40F. HaHa

I bought it about 10 years ago for around $6k. I have no idea what they're going for now. They do make specific trailers for snowmobiles that have two ramp doors. One large ramp in the back and one at the front.

Very cool. Approximately how much does your trailer weigh?

Also, congrats on your new truck!

I'm very interested in this as i plan to do regular towing with a similar sized trailer

  1. How tall is your trailer?
  2. How much does it weigh?
  3. How much does the bike weigh?
  4. At 7 feet wide, how are the mirrors? how far back can you see? are you using extensions for the mirrors? What are the legal requirements for mirrors where you are?
  5. I see that you set your cruise to 60 mph. IF at any point you do a stretch where you tow at 50mph i would really love to know what efficiency you get
Congrats on the truck, can't wait for my place in line (literally having trouble waiting  )

Look forward to hearing how closely reality matches to ABRP estimates: both in terms of energy consumption by distance, and charging time on each occasion.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

My only worry is that most EA chargers I've come across in Texas are not made for trailers. More suitable for cars, as spacing is tight.

1. 7' 6"
2. @3000lbs
3. @450lbs
4. I can see past the trailer but have hard time seeing anything that is closer than 100ft. I wish the mirrors had a couple more inches of reach. I'm not using extensions and doubt I will. Not sure of the requirements in my state and will have to check.
5. I will give it a shot and report back.

This is great, thank you. My trailer would be taller, a bit heavier, narrower (maybe), and with larger tires. My only hope is that at 50mph, im still above 1 mile per kwh.
