I got an organizer tray for the Armrest Console a week after picking up my R1S (Gen 1 2024) in December 2023. The tray fit ok but it was a pain to use because 1) it was not easy to grab onto and 2) I had to set it somewhere while I reached down into the deep console. So, I played around and came up with this 3D printed mechanism. It took more than a few iterations before it worked nicely. Even now, it's certainly not a foolproof motion. It takes a little practice to learn how to slide it smoothly toward the rear without bumping the catch features on the underside of the lid halves. But once you do it a few times it's pretty slick. Now I can get into the compartment while driving using just one hand.

I'll post the .stl files on printables.com if anybody who wants to have a go.

STL files on Printables now -- Link: https://www.printables.com/model/1159792-rivian-armrest-console-slide-out-tray-mechanism-pa

But, for people who either can't or don't want to bother with 3D printing, I'm making up kits that include the tray and all the brackets and fasteners . DM me if you want a kit. $95 shipped CONUS.

UPDATE 2025.02.02: The tray and mechanism work on both Gen 1 AND Gen 2!

Info below shows how it works, what you get in the 'kit' and how to assemble and install.

That's a great idea!
Please share the STL files if you can.

Thanks for sharing that great design!

I think I have that same aftermarket tray insert and share the same frustrations.

It wasn't initially clear what would keep me from tilting the tray and dumping out the contents (as I am prone to do). The very complete and well done videos seem to show that is not possible except at the initial moment of lift. Very clever use of existing geometry!

Wondering what media you are printing this in (ABS, SLA, SLS, or a specific variation) or would recommend.

I see the STL files on Printables now.

Thanks so much!

I'm printing in Prusament Jet Black PETG. The parts in my Rivian have been working without issue for more than a year so I feel pretty good about the material and print settings.

I did find it on Printables and downloaded it. My grandson just got a new, more advanced 3D printer. I'm going to have him give it a try. If he can't pull it off, I will be ordering one.
