Saw that RivianTracker posted about the passenger cubby getting removed from new builds for cost saving measures… no glovebox and cubby removed too… how much are they really saving here?

Sounds like my wife's problem if we ever replace our R1 ;)

Reason number (too many to count) to keep my Gen 1

It's one thing to cut costs - but these are just annoying cuts. Where do they expect people to store documents - these cubbies were already undersized to begin with. I'd never find my registration again if I stored it in the center console black hole.

It's in the same category as the early elimination of the 12v power under the dash.

Unnecessary overreaction. It’s not like they took away the only storage that ever existed. The deep center console storage remains. Plus, Gen2 has a generous sized drawer where Gen1's camp speaker would be, it's even pictured. Both storage spaces are readily accessible by driver and passenger.

Gen2 12V is under the passenger seat. This means, to service the 12V, the tech would be holding and lifting the bottom front portion of the seat. Keeping the cubby means high likelihood of breaking plastics that are not meant to bear full (or near-full) weight of the seat. This is probably the reason they did away with the feature.

I mean yes there is storage elsewhere, but lack of a glovebox and removing the cubby is a bit annoying honestly. Sure there’s the drawer now, but what if you opt for the speaker? RivianTracker also stating that the removal doesn’t seem to be because of the 12V placement.

Really glad that I leased a GEN1 when I did. Love Rivian but I really don't know how they survive.
It's a good thing no one is asking you to run the company. Phew. That missing cubby is really going to send the company into a tailspin. Wow. /s

It has been reported than some G2 TM still have the storage spot so the battery theory seems to be wrong.

You defend bad ideas like somehow they were good ideas...talk about an over reaction.

Regardless, the overreactions are hilarious, given there are other storage features, readily accessible by both driver and passenger. It's a false equivalent to 12V socket, since there are no other 12V sockets remaining.

I have mine filled with stuff....both of them...passenger and driver. Sure there are other areas, but eliminating in a vehicle without a glove box to save a few bucks seems short sighted.

While they are at it, can they take away the glass roof and air suspension please? On a more serious note, I don't care if they take that little cubby away. My last car only had enough space for sunglasses. The R1 feels like a football field of space.

The drawer where the camp speaker sits actually isn’t really functional. It locks every time you enter drive and cannot be unlocked unless you enter park. You can’t store anything in it unless you are 100% confident you will not need it while you’re driving, so therefore it can’t be used for something like sunglasses. At least that’s how it works in the Gen 1s, because I have a locking drawer that I can’t use because of this designed software limitation.
