  • 1008 17th St. (not far from I-5)
  • 40 chargers
  • 28 are V4 Superchargers (with built-in adapters). One of the first third-party Superchargers to open
  • 12 dedicated CCS chargers (2x 350kW chargers and 10x 184kW chargers, each with its own power, no shared power)
  • Each 184kW charger has two heads already, for different sides of the vehicle, but these could be replaced by 1 NACS and 1 CCS in the future.
  • 222kW solar canopy
  • 58¢/kWh paid through Rove app or credit card tap. On par with all other networks in the area. If fixed rate all day, cheaper than others during peak hours.
  • Small Gelson's market on-site
  • Car wash and dog park also on-site
  • 24 hour on-site staff/security (for those who are like, "eww, Santa Ana is full of immigrants!" /s)

There are even two CHAdeMO stalls! That's rare nowadays, seeing two CHAdeMO at one newly-built location.

This is really nice to see. This could be the model to ultimately replace the gas station as we know it. The day will come when ICE vehicle operators will have to plan their trips around being able to find facilities where they can get fuel.

I found the location bit odd too. It would have made more sense along the 405 corridor than 5 in OC where EV density is higher.

Perhaps the market research indicated SD to LA travels where 5 is the primary route, unless one is heading to the west side.

Cut the nativist BS. This is a country of immigrants. Almost everyone in this forum is one or a descendent of one. The city is named Santa Ana. Not Smith or Jones. Plus, it's a well-appointed charging stop, not a condo. No one is propositioning you to live there.

It's located right along I-5, a major interstate corridor spanning all three continuous coastal states. What else would one expect to find along this corridor? gas stations and rest stops. Lastly, parts of Santa Ana is experiencing gentrification. A business like Gelson's wouldn't be a partner if it didn't feel like the location isn't a fit for their brand.

A bit of city history via Wiki:
In 1810, the Spanish governor of California granted Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana to José Antonio Yorba. Following the Mexican War of Independence, the Yorba family rancho was enlarged, becoming one of the largest and most valuable in the region and home to a diverse Californio community. Following the American Conquest of California, the rancho was sold to the Sepúlveda family, who subsequently lost their land claim. In 1869, William H. Spurgeon then purchased the rancho and formally founded the modern city of Santa Ana.

I wonder if they are going to discount the car wash with a "fill up".

Calm down and chill....

You're reading too much into it. Both 5 and 405 are main arteries though OC. I am not denigrating Santa Ana. I used to live there many years ago.

All I said and mean is that for the first location, I found it to be at an odd location, when the entire OC is available, especially around Disney land, if its along 5, or near Costa Mesa/Huntington/Newport when so many people goto the beach.
Some of it was not directed at you. Scroll up.

Every business has to start somewhere. This won't be the only location. It's just the first. Yes, they could have chosen 405 corridor instead, but they chose to start with the 5 first (and likely had data and research to support that business decision). How is this a problem/detriment? Business model isn't solely aimed at local communities/residents. It serves pass-through traffic as well (including OC-LA commuters). Those going to the beach have other charging opportunities. This isn't the only one. With charging, the more the merrier and this location is +1 +40. 40!

This looks to be a great design and has real services there too. I'd love to see more 30-40 charger locations up and down the I-5 route that have some amount of services on site. Just being able to cruise and basically know a charger will be available wherever is how you get mass EV adoption in the end. These locations mean a quick stop is easy. Drive in without much thought, plug in, go use the restroom, buy a drink or snack and return to your car. All that was probably enough to add 100 miles of range too.

Exactly. The detractors are so in the weeds they are missing the forest.

More chargers in Southern California is always a good thing. This is the most saturated EV market in the country, and public charging can use all the help it can get. I always marvel at people saying they pull up to an empty bank of superchargers. Here in southern california, the sites are pretty full even late into the night. And good luck charging during commuting hours.

Yeah honestly this was my experience driving my R1S from Bay Area to Bend, Or then to Richland, WA recently. There were so many charging options everywhere that I just never thought about it. I found myself passing locations I wanted to stop and charge at just because it was there, but I had no need because I charged while eating Fajitas and now had 350 miles of range again. There are some Tesla locations with 48 chargers around Shasta Lake. I wanted to check it out but hoenstly had no need. This needs to be the universal experience.
