Its been 2 Years to date already with my R1S so here is my 2 year Ownership Log/Review but first a TLDR for those who want the short version.

TLDR: Hands down one of the best vehicles I owned regardless of how it is fueled. It being able to update its components and add features on the fly on a monthly basis is icing on the cake as I have never owned a vehicle like that prior. The vehicle has been majorly bug free with the occasional hiccup but nothing major but you only hear/see the bad parts online so this is a positive saying nothing (knock on wood) major has happened even with me beating up the vehicle since day one on purpose for shakedown testing. Recent Service updated my Jounce Lines, a new AC compressor, took care of some rattles and paid for a new windshield with a crack. I havent had any major problems period where I would get somewhat annoyed by service (I know a lot of you have) mine must have been a middle of the week build! Having one of the very first R2 reservations I am digging everything about the company but I know ymmv so I still remain independent in giving them criticism where it deserves it.

Long Version: I have a Build thread here with a Lot more Details but here are some highs and lows.

Overall my R1S year ownership is now here and I couldn't be happier with the vehicle. You often see a lot of criticism on the service etc where its due but so far I haven't been in a spot to criticize them too much. How ever My standards are basic and reliability/leaving you stranded which hasnt happened so I am a happy camper and wont ever nitpick that much.

Interior Wear and Tear:
Interior wear and tear has been minimal really as I have some really great LinerX floor mats and use my favorite interior cleaner for cleaning things up. I did have some window gaskets that were loose/expanding letting in more debris and water (which did not penetrate inside cabin) but I had service replace it and the car has been great. With 1 kid and another on the way the interior has held up flawless even with the 100+ cheerios everywhere lol.

Suspension:
The suspension since day 1 has gotten noticeably better, very little porpoising, softer ride but still on 22's is quite rough, I personally think 20's would give a better ride so I may eventually switch as well. Service did fix all my NVH from the tires with balancing and a new steering wheel!

Tires
Have been relatively great considering I drive normal most of the time with the exception of some spirited driving and racing events (see above). Ill probably need to replace them in about 10 k miles or so but not sure if I want 20s or find my perfect setup.

Space
I have had 7 full adults in my vehicle for a few weeks but daily we are 2 adults, 1 car seat and 1 dog (30lbs) with plenty of space always available, I did buy the replacement drawer but its kind of useless because the car has to be parked for it to be unlocked so not really sure I recommend it. 1 kid on the way so I expect capacity will soon be full.

Driving
I work from home so most of my driving is errand based or the occasional fun trip or event planned so that being said I charge maybe 1 time a week up to 75% or so and that usually does enough for me to last thru the week if not 1.5 to 2 weeks. I have done a few long trips from Silver Spring, MD to Ocean City and back as well as Wallops Island and back and have never had a doubt on range estimate. My lowest SoC I arrived home at was 3% which was 11 miles coming from wallops island and I wasn't sweating at all. Over all with the addition of the SC network range is a non issue for me even more so now.

Feature/Wishlist

  • Traffic Data Powered by Google (maps display fine but its traffic and route data is consistently wrong, I dont need android auto if the traffic data is accurate)
    • Note Wife NEVER trusts Rivian NAV though it is getting better she always has her phone out and needs to see live traffic from google which is annoying because its partially correct
  • User accounts (Linked to each individuals spotify login etc) this is getting pretty annoying lately TBH lol
  • Youtube/Netflix etc would be nice but not at the stage where Id enjoy that much
  • V2L with Rivian Provided Solar Solution would get me to buy in within a heartbeat I have 0 solar right now. Though we don't have power outages like that its nice to know when and if we do we are prepared.

That is all for now I will update this as I think of more things or people ask me more things. Enjoy a assortment of my favorite pics.

I will be missing in GEN 1 R1S will be Auto lane change & Lane centering with adaptive curise control in any road.

Maps need lot work to compete with Google maps. (To aviod use phone and trust rivian Nav)

I can turn a lane on a highway so it's a part trick for me lol. The fact that it can stay Lane centered on a highway without killing me it is pretty awesome and more than enough for me.

@kanundrum if you tape the contacts for the replacement drawer, I think it'll prevent locking? So you can open it while car is in drive.

Also for Spotify, I think I'll probably create a dedicated account for the Rivian as soon as my Apple Music trial ends. Still want podcasts and don't see the value in paying for both Apple Music and Audible over Spotify.

For your usage of Driver+, have you seen any increased rear brake wear? Apparently Driver+ doesn't use regen to brake, instead it uses the rear brakes?

Thanks for the update. Most of the posts are about issues and that's to be expected. It's Nice to see one about how great the car is. I'm in the same boat. It's been about a year for me and the worst thing has been a couple of window trims coming off a bit. Tech came by and fixed them. Cheers.

Great update! Thanks for sharing.

I'm only at a 1 year + 3 months but I feel the same about my T. Only 1 issue with my HV battery and they handled it like champs. Otherwise it's been nothing but pure enjoyment.

It's weird to have a vehicle that gets features added via software updates on a regular basis. It only adds to the enjoyment. Even if an update doesn't include a bunch of exciting stuff I still look forward to every one.

Good to know the drawer thing! Ill wait for accounts because I would not want my music and my wifes all in one playlist, defeats the point imho.

No extra wear on Driver+/brakes afaik and can tell though i use it maybe 5 times a month tops

I'm in year and a half now with the R1s with 28K miles. I can't say enough about how great and dependable the R1s is . We have no issues except for some minor stuff that quickly fixed in the first 6 months of ownership. Only thing I wish could be better is the AC. There are time it is not cool fast enough in texas heat and that screaming noise from it. We did have the refrigerant checked and it was at the right level.
Why did they replace your AC compressor @kanundrum

I recently lease a DM R1T and really wish i lease and quad instead. It is definitely not the same animal

It would be genuine inconsistent and had a fault error on multiple occasions

For whatever it is worth: Our R1S is 10 months old with AT 20’s because I do use it off road and they have been great on road also. Smooth with no noise. Thanks for the review. JB

No major problems, but service replaced your jounce lines and gave you a new AC compressor? This is a new definition of "major" I was previously unaware of. You work from home, so I guess you don't need the car for very much. It must be nice to have such low standards.
