Looks like it will be portable.

• Induction stovetop with two ranges
• Fold out design. Sits on rear door.
• Drawer with cutting board and space for utensils
• No sink that the prototype had
• Powered via rear power outlet
• Comes with travel case

As an R1S owner, none of these "cook in your car" solutions appeal to me. For example, we often enjoy bacon when camping - how long would it take for the smell of bacon to leave the car if you're cooking on the tailgate? It reminds me of the thread where gas from a power washer spilled in an R1S, but at least I LIKE the smell of bacon :)

I fail to see the downside of smelling bacon??

Although I wasn't a customer at its original price, I liked the original gear tunnel kitchen more, but definitely think this cheaper version is better, since it isn't R1T specific. I am guessing this new one would work on the R1T tailgate instead of the gear tunnel. This new one looks good, but I also think I would rather have a standalone unit/table similar to @kanundrum . One that could work with other brands/onboard inverters.

You do know this is portable, right? It's not attached to the vehicle. Stick it on a picnic table or something.

That's why I made this
Indeed! Your post made me realize that I should stop looking at all of the kitchen setups that were attached to the R1S (of them, I think the Fruble was my favorite) and look at some stand alone options. I'm not nearly as handy (nor do I have the tools) as you, so I was looking at what I could acquire that was ready-made. I decided on the Sylvan Sport Dine O Max Camp Kitchen and bought it in July when it was on sale for $299. I haven't used it yet, but am planning to get the following accessories to go with it:
I like the flexibility this setup will give me depending on what's on the menu. I could have all of it, including the $350 cooler, for less than the $1,400 Rivian's going to charge for their cooktop, utensil drawer, and small workspace.

The other thing that really made the concept of a separate kitchen area possible was the R1S Extension Cord Through the Liftgate Hack. I was getting a little annoyed that, for an Adventure Vehicle, we didn't have an "outside" outlet available in the R1S when I saw that post. Now I don't need it!

$1,400 is insane for a $200 cooktop, drawer, string lights, and a cutting board. ?. I was willing to pay the piper for the original camp kitchen because of the novelty and seamlessness.

That's slick! Maybe you should do a piano hinge with corner feet so another section folds over the top and then four more legs and have it fold open for an eating area. Then you can stack on top when it's in the car.

Lame. They should have just let the dream die and apologize for advertising something they didn’t really intend to bring to market. I’m sure it’ll sell fine though just like other financed accessories.
