2024 R1S Dual Motor Large Battery 21"
Hi all,

The trip was 40 minutes of freeway driving with 15 minutes of paved mountain roads and 15 minutes of some very "lite" off-roading. I can't in good conscience say I experienced any "real" off-roading during my last trip, but I did turn on the off-roading mode, so it counts in my mind!

R1S Dual Motor Large Battery 21"
To campsite (55 miles, 700ft elevation gain, 40 minutes freeway, 30 minutes mountain roads)
  • Staring range/%: 340mi / 94%
  • End range/%: 266mi / 74%
To home
  • Starting range/%: 219mi / 61%
  • End range/%: 155mi / 43%

Some bullet points for new things we tried this time around:
  • Loaded up the inflatable paddleboard on the cargo box, and the usual camping gear in the car for a short camping trip with a view of a lake. Decided to use the 12v air pump that came with the iSUP since I've been warned not to use the onboard air compressor for too long (took ~10 minutes to inflate to 15psi with the 12v).
  • Finally got to use the camp speaker as a light (forgot to bring our camp lantern!) and for music. Hoping to incorporate it more to our trips in the future.
  • Got some good footage of the tent setup that connects to the rear of the car. Had lots of questions about this last time around. Hope this helps.
  • Used a 1500w rated griddle this time around. Working as intended with no issues with the 1500w limit on the car.
Feel free to leave any questions. Happy to help any future Rivian campers!
As usual, enjoy the pictures and video!

Do you worry about the tent connectors scratching/marring the vehicle/wheels under high winds?

Love your posts! I changed the mattress to the Exped Megamat Auto after seeing your Lost Horizons setup. Also planning on visiting Love Creek Sanctuary myself later this year. Keep them coming please

That's a good question. For one, we haven't experienced high winds yet. But honestly they are soft-ish materials so I don't think they will do much damage. If we did have high winds and we got worried about damaging the car, we can just detach it from the car and use it as a standalone tent too.

Thanks for watching! I pretty much have weekly trips planned so more will come soon!

From what I know the Exped Megamat Auto is what the Lost Horizon copied, so I'm sure it's going to work out well for you.

Love Creek Sanctuary was definitely a cool experience. You can just spend time walking around and checking out all the animals. Hosts were very nice and eager to give a tour.

CSG,

Wonderful! Your posts help me vicariously camp because I don't get to hardly do any of it as much as I'd like. It looks so nice from the "off roading" to the healthy meal. Keep posting these wonderful moments. Cheers.

Thanks! I'm on mobile so it's a bit awkward to copy paste here but the links to my gear is in the video descriptions.

they looked pretty close in terms of comfort and quality, what made you pick exped over it?

Also appreciate the non hosty videos! Just let us observe in actuality of what you're doing ??. Did you ever consider one of those thunderbolt supply or the newer fruble back of R1S kitchens with this setup? Thinking of an all in one setup to be able to cook bug free but wonder about access and mobility with this tent over it

Only reason is REI sells the exped and I prefer to buy from REI if possible. And the brand is more well known and famous so I would pay extra for the peace of mind. But I might have got the Lost Horizon if I am buying now since multiple people have said it’s great.

@ChargeSetGo how is that tent as a stand alone tent? Have you tried using it without attaching to the car? I wonder how versatile it is.
