cool that he did this and also cool that they didn't hide that they did experience issues with their chargers.

bonus in the video: there are a lot of Rivians shown in the background!

Looks like this fella also charged up his cholesterol levels.

On a more serious note, this was a good move on their part. They are perceived as being this faceless entity that doesn’t acknowledge any of their issues. I think he addressed that head on. If they were really committed, they should make one person from the c-suite do that trip every year on a rotating basis.

Rivians, being the most inefficient mainstream EV, are thirsty beasts. I always see them at EA chargers, too. I wouldn’t trade the shape (which is perfect) for better efficiency, though. It’s a shame the charge curve is so bad after 80%.

I am really disappointed in the maintenance of EA’s rural network, but I’m hoping it improves.

I love that EA did this as a way to show people "we hear you, we are working on it."

I was working on a video for my YouTube channel one time and ran in to a whole bunch of EA marketing people, who were there to block off our only local chargers for VWs CEO who was coming to show the ID Buzz in town.

I chatted with them for a bit. Long story short, they are very aware of the feedback you see on Twitter and elsewhere.

Switching CEOs was the right move and I believe signals that they are ready to make big improvements to both the amount of chargers and reliability.

I personally hope that EA is extremely successful because it would really help with EV adoption across the board.

Smart move as CEO. Shows customers that he's connected to the customer base, and more importantly gets him a first hand idea of what the problems are and how to fix them.

Should've taken I90/94. Video would have been 10x longer

2700 miles - 30+ stations. That's 90 miles per station average. That's sad range honestly.

and HOURS of pounding pizza and burgers.

Don't trust anyone that says the state of Illinois and pronounces it "Ill-a-noise"

Red flags...
I pronounce it that way because illinois sucks ;)

I’m sure that was by design to increase the number of stations visited. The Ioniq 5 is close to the R1 in advertised range.

I'm not sure the correlation you're implying here is real. Rivians are thirsty but don't charge materially longer than other EVs unless you're really topping it off - thanks to a good charge curve below 60% and high max rate, I usually leave the station before my peers in other mainstream EVs.

If anything I think it's more that:
  • Despite being small in absolute terms, Rivian is absolutely punching above their weight class in the peer group in terms of number of CCS vehicles shipped. (By contrast, I almost never see Lightnings or Hummers on the road, and see Rivians about as often as Mach Es or ID.4s.)
  • Rivians are very road-trip friendly - roomy, comfy seats, adventure equipped, long range. Local drivers never use fast chargers, but road trippers do; you're more likely to see Rivians charging than vehicles that really struggle on the open road, like ID.4s or Leafs.
