Rivian R1T on the Edge! @ Bank Trail near Canon City Colorado

We took the bank trail near Canon City a couple of weeks ago. Largely a simple trail but there was on section where there was a big Rick pushing you out towards a ledge on the corner of the trail. We have a lot of footage we’re compiling on that trip but here’s a short clip of that section…

Hah...another Aaron in software that off-roads. Nice. Maybe I'll see you folks on the trail at some point. Been around the state in my old 4Runner and can't wait to get the R1T setup to have fun. Need sliders and a spare before I'll do anything too challenging though.

Ha. A third actually. My son is also an Aaron who is a software engineer in Colorado He's actually the Rivian owner but not gonna lie, I'm a little jealous. We're headed back from Moab tomorrow and his rig was solid. On fins n things I was dragging ass all day in my Gladiator diesel leveled on 35s while he never even tapped any metal... See an example below.

Do you know what PSI they were running in the R1T? Definitely excited to get out on the trails when the R1S gets here.

He runs right around 30-32. As a Jeep guy, that seems really high and I questioned it. But given the weight of this thing, the tires still squat pretty good in the low 30s.

It's always hard to tell the incline on video but when it looks steep, it's even steeper! Looking forward to seeing more.

If you didn’t see this one, it has quite a bit of the Rivian in it. It was an early video so a little rough around the edges. And I got lost and broke the Jeep because I was stupid.

I agree. That thing's color is sweet. In Moab it was perfect for the back drops.

I'm still kinda confused why the 4 motors aren't all turning. It is behaving just like a vehicle without diff locks. Maybe the computer is making sure the truck continues in the same direction. I would love a setting where if you apply 15% throttle it applies it equally to all tires no matter what...Then again I'm going with the max pack so I'll be running just the dual motors.

That is one of my issues with the R1T. Having owned Jeeps for most of my life, I really miss not having fully lockable axles.

If you think about it, 4 motors should be able to mimic lockable diffs exactly. In fact, it should be able to do better than lockable diffs by figuring out when ‘locked’ is needed and immediately switching to that in like .000001 seconds. You can see it in the video. The R1T does eventually figure out what it needs to do to go forward, it just takes it way more time to figure it out than you would expect. Like seconds more… Hopefully that time is lessened in a software update.

@AaronInColorado Seeing the red R1T and comment about coming back from Moab... did I run into you and your sun on Chicken Corners last week? I was in a launch green R1T with a bed rack on it.
