Hi all -

TLDR version: in summary, the guessometer was DEAD ON for a 144 mile trip; in these temp ranges I got 92.9% of stated range; the stated range tied to 302.27 miles on a full charge in conserve. Because fun life happens I only got it up to 88% charge before I left, stated range of 266.

I got my R1s about 10 days ago, but for 8 of those days it was hanging out getting PPF. I am so, so impressed with this thing; VIN in the 3000s and built on 12/22, but so much better tuned than the R1s First Drive I did in October. I am glad I took this and did not wait for Ocean Cost, but totally get why people might keep OC. I actually did not like BM at first and now I quite like it.

Anyway, this is about range - here is a link to a ski blog that I hang out on with my write up. If you don't want to check out the post, in summary, the guessometer was DEAD ON for a 144 mile trip; in these temp ranges I got 92.9% of stated range; the stated range tied to 302.27 miles on a full charge in conserve. Charging was fabulous - navigated to a 150kw from the user interface and pulled between 143 and 158kw over 27 min for 64kw and 135 mi of range. Don't know how I got more than 150 kw from a 158 kw charger - I leave that to better minds.

Oh, and thanks to the handful of people who did not clown me for asking about the 0-60 in Conserve. This is why I asked. Thanks!

These things are worth the wait. Enjoy the write up: https://nyskiblog.com/forum/threads/ice-v-electric-cost-and-emissions.803/page-192#post-52620

Nice write up in your ski post. A good buddy just got his patrol badge at Gore.

On last Friday I drove my R1T 160 miles from Albany NY to the northern Adirondacks. The air temp steadily decreased from 0 F to -17 F upon arrival with 20-25 mph headwinds and crosswinds. Net elevation gain was ~1400 feet on the trip. Drove 105 miles on I-87 in conserve mode at ~70 mph, then 30 miles on state highways still in conserve, then the last 25 miles on packed-snow local roads in snow mode. Running on 20" A/T Pirelli's at 47 lbs inflation.

Bottom line is that I averaged 1.46 mi/kWh under these brutal EV conditions. I reversed the route yesterday with little or no wind, temps in the low 30's, and the same drive mode/speeds and averaged 1.96 mi/kWh. Winter driving sure does exact a toll on EV efficiency.

Did you talk to a guy in a Forrest Green Rivian near Whiteface in the begining of December?

18 miles due north of Whiteface (as the frozen crow flies). Didn't ski this weekend since it was -24F at our house Saturday morning, but we did go sledding in the afternoon! Hardy bunch.

Important note: The R1T was in a 50 degree garage overnight Friday, bumping my diesel tractor outdoors. The tractor started hard Saturday morning, and it took 10 minutes to get the hydraulics to function decently.

If you were the guy in the Adirondacks Chocolates parking lot in Wilmington, then yes, that was me.

It's good to see Rivians in the North Country. Now we just need some RAN chargers!

Has anyone had any issues with repeated notifications of the acceleration and brake regen being limited while the battery warms up?

This is a recurrent issue for me, and I'm trying to figure out whether something is wrong with my vehicle, or it is the nature of the travel/trip. The notifications beep every 30-60 seconds and are actually sort of annoying. It always occurs when the truck is parked in the cold overnight and I'm heading back down the hill from Tahoe toward Sacramento.

I get that warning almost every morning since it's been so cold here. But it only happens once not every 30-60 seconds. I do see the snowflake near the power meter to visualize the limited regen and acceleration.

Thanks for the reply. The frequency of the notifications is what truly bothers me, and it lasts for 30 minutes or so while driving down the hill. I don't know whether the battery temperature keeps narrowly fluctuating above and below the temperature threshold, and this would be fixed by modulating the lockout time of the notification? Or is something wrong with the mechanism that warms my battery?

Some have said that if in the morning (timed charge) you run interior heat and seats, it helps warm the battery. So maybe plug it in the night before and an hour before you drive, set it to pull more charge and test that? Good luck.

Looks like you only used the heated seats and not much central heating; that would explain the great range.

Overwhelmingly correct. I would say I was 'cheap' with the heat. Maybe ran it a total of 20 minutes on the entire drive up (2.5 hours) just as what I felt necessary. Most of that was because my son fell asleep without a hat on : )

I will say once the sun was out on the way back (32 degrees) the cabin was near room temprature just from facing south on a mountain in the sun for a few hours. Great for the winter. In summer I think I will want some kind of after market shade.

Each weekend I drive up to the ski hill here in NW Montana and let the truck sit for the day while the family is skiing. When we get back in and begin the trip down the mountain I think I have a similar experience. In my case, the notification comes on as I vacillate in and out of regen. As I begin to coast down the hill with regen on, it reaches a max regen capacity. At that point, it reduces regen, releases some of the regen brake and "dings" the notification. It doesn't notify again until I use the accelerator.

If the grade reduces to the point where I want a little more speed, I'll use the accelerator. This seems to sort of "reset" the regen capacity and the notification. If I let off the accelerator and go back to regen only, it goes through the same cycle - fills the regen capacity, reduces the regen braking, and "dings" the notification.

For me, this is reproducible and predictable. If yours just continues to notify you while staying in reduced regen mode over and over I would think that something might be wrong.
