Just a follow-up, it appears the Design Studio for Model X opened for me in mid-November of 2015. I received my X in early April of 2016, so approximately 4 and a half months ahead of my delivery.

There's your answer, then. When towing with my X, I don't exceed 60 on the highway or my consumption skyrockets. Remember that air resistance increases at the square of speed. It's a trade-off between range and time on the road. Even 5 mph makes a big difference.

My guess is you'll be well within the limits with a 27ft Airstream. Those run in the ~7700lb range with tongue weights around 750-800lbs. Since payload is 11,000lbs, it would be reasonable to have a tongue weight limit around 1,100lbs, otherwise one would have to tow a poorly balanced load.

I found this quote from the blog post informative: "We generally see about a 50% reduction in range when towing at full capacity." At full capacity, and with a box test trailer, that's pretty reasonable. I see about the same with my Model X and 4500 lbs but with a narrower, radius-edged Airstream.
