Interesting⦠The Lyriq and Blazer are on the front left fender.
Looks like weāre entering an era of random charge port locations, even within the same manufacturer. Worse than the classic left/right gas filler location case.
Interesting⦠Putting the charger stand in the middle of the pull through block means itās still catering to the rear plug Tesla, pulling a trailer. A front plug CCS vehicle with trailer will hang out the back, potentially blocking traffic. That also assumes there is a long CCS charge cable.
That argument really isnāt different from the old argument to stick with home incandescent bulbs over LED because āitās only a few kWh a dayā. Surely you cannot endorse such an argument against efficiency.
The cumulative effect will be enormous as EV penetration increases, probably worth quite...
Agreed. And the same applies to the 12v power system, which should be an even more efficient way of powering refrigeration.
The more I understand the Rivian architecture, the more Iāve come to believe the Rivian engineering team is highly disconnected from the whole energy efficient outdoor...
This is one where I have to give credit to the legacy manufacturers. They have a culture that understands idle power consumption from years of living in a 12v world.
Rivian engineers come from a pure software world focused on āwizz bangā and are oblivious to fundamental engineering issues like...
Sure would like to get a Rivian statement on whether the battery qualifies, especially for the lower 2023 requirement.
They should know that right now from their current suppliers, so why the obfuscation?
Donāt forget the credit phaseout starts in the quarter AFTER reaching that cap. Most Ford customers will have credit continuity if they do reach the cap before year end, other than the income and price limits.
The new program seems almost tailor made for the Ford case (just coincidence).
Hereās a thoughtā¦
Rivian could get a cost reduction on existing reservation deals by offering the 2 motor implementation instead of 4, along with a small price reduction, ie split the difference on cost savings.
Both Rivian and the customer get a monetary benefit, and it would be of interest...
Address Rivianās number one Achilles heel: Parasitic and idle power consumption.
A company-wide culture change is needed to implement a āwar on power consumptionā.
The $4,500 union add on was never defensible, and was likely added as a known throw out only to curry favor with voter groups.
Questions still open:
- Credit or rebate
- Income phaseout/cap
- Vehicle price cap
- Total production phaseout/cap
Manchinās comment about āintentā at least shows the...
Sadly, I think not. Technical people will manage the issue, with some inconvenience. But plenty of non-technical buyers will not fully comprehend the parasitic loss issues which will lead to many unsatisfactory experiences. Not to mention the cumulative energy waste as more are sold.
Itās...
Iām well aware of what either vehicle system can and canāt do, plus the energy consumption for various camping configurations.
The real problem here is the general lack of attention to energy efficiency by Rivian. Native DC power consumption is most efficient for long term low power use, second...
The refrigerator is definitely the key use for 12v. The AC is useful for the occasional high current load, but grossly inefficient for continuous refrigeration or low power lighting.
Itās ironic that this all electric wonder vehicle with massive batteries actually has less electrical utility...
One key advantage the legacy guys have is decades of NVH and BSR measurement and resolution capabilities. Neither Tesla or Rivian have that maturity yet, so not surprising both are noisier than the Lightning or the Cadillac Lyriq.
(NVH= Noise, Vibration, Harshness; BSR= Buzz, Squeaks, Rattlesā¦...
Buc-ees also won several of the TCEQ awards for building public charging stations. The money is the Texas share of the Volkswagen settlement and requires CCS. They bid under the name Retail EV Charging North/Central/South Texas LLC...
IIRC Buc-ees was one of the winning bids for the Texas public charging funds. Perfect for their model because people can come in, browse and buy crap whilst waiting for their charge to complete.
It really boils down to a trifecta of issues that apply to any start up, but especially an auto manufacturer.
- All new product with all new parts that create many āfirst yearā engineering issues and running changes
- Weak purchasing power with no established vendor relationships, which puts...
