  1. LIVE from Rivian's NY Auto Show Preview Event! (Q&A and R1T / R1S Hands-On)

I’m just being a Debbie downer. It’s a great platform. I’m sure they have a plan. Fleet sales are definitely the ideal. I think I saw this based on their LA auto showing as more a general consumer truck/off road competitor but I’m thinking this is more the Range Rover and Mercedes G competitor...
  2. LIVE from Rivian's NY Auto Show Preview Event! (Q&A and R1T / R1S Hands-On)

Sure. Fleet sales I can see looking at operational savings. That said a fleet purchase won’t want leather, wood, lcd’s, self driving, etc. a fleet purchaser will want two pedals, one chair, a steering wheel, and cargo capacity. That’s it. They’ve made no hint such a car will be available to...
  3. LIVE from Rivian's NY Auto Show Preview Event! (Q&A and R1T / R1S Hands-On)

I really hope they succeed and I think they are being very smart looking to sell not just white cars but also their tech. They’ve also leaned like you said from some of Tesla’s mistake. That said I still can’t see a large market for these cars at these prices so it’s certainly good they’re...
  4. R1T $69,000 starting price - opinions

After the event I think I’m tapped out. What I saw was amazing, but so is a Lamborghini. I have no idea who they think this car is for. The outdoor enthusiast who has a business doing construction work and will benefit from using their air tools and also has an income so disposable a 100k truck...
  5. LIVE from Rivian's NY Auto Show Preview Event! (Q&A and R1T / R1S Hands-On)

I enjoyed the event and having an excuse to fly to New York for a few nights. That said I still think they’ve priced themselves out of the market. Model Xs aren’t moving in volume. These are nice cars. 100k nice (which is what I’m guessing they are spec’d as shown)... not for me. I have a...
  6. LIVE from Rivian's NY Auto Show Preview Event! (Q&A and R1T / R1S Hands-On)

I also did NOT see a flashlight in the passenger doors. We did get a set of pins and a water bottle. #moreswag.
  7. LIVE from Rivian's NY Auto Show Preview Event! (Q&A and R1T / R1S Hands-On)

Interesting little air vent in the wheel well. Aerodynamics I’m sure.
  8. LIVE from Rivian's NY Auto Show Preview Event! (Q&A and R1T / R1S Hands-On)

I tried to take pics of areas we haven’t seen much of. The doors are an interesting bungee type system for the pockets. I didn’t get good pics but the R1T had a lot of rubber trim on the lower areas like the seat frame whereas those were carpeted on the R1S. There’s a pic of the rear seat...
  9. R1T $69,000 starting price - opinions

It’s really weird. I have bought fully loaded vehicles since I got my first job as a doc. I had a fully loaded 2007 RDX which I think was like high 30s low 40s. My wife got her fully loaded Infiniti for sub 50. My current xc60 fully loaded was 50. My wife’s fully loaded 2019 RDX was sub 50...
  10. R1T $69,000 starting price - opinions

For me this is a life goal. I’m overweight. Have been forever. Trying to get my weight on track and if I do this next car is to be my midlife crisis car. I’ll be 40 next year. Most I’ve ever spent on a car is 50k. I remember my wrangler as a teen so it’s high on my list. The Rivian has all...
  11. R1T $69,000 starting price - opinions

I hate being a Debbie downer (though I’m exceedingly good at it). The other thing to consider is if you’re simply paying a fee to go green you gotta think a little deeper. An electric car has a much larger carbon footprint to produce than an ICE. The 180kwh battery pack will have a massive...
  12. R1T $69,000 starting price - opinions

True true. If you’re desert running for speed for sure a raptor is the way to go.
  13. R1T $69,000 starting price - opinions

I posted this elsewhere but I’m a bored passenger from Orlando to Ohio. I put my 1k down the day after the LA auto show. The Rivians are both amazing looking autos with some astounding features. My concern is majorly on cost and as other have said it comes down to options. If they price...
  14. Rivian R1T aftermarket parts and accessories

It’s my understanding the bigger wheels typically help raise the axle and pumpkin for clearance. Lift raises the belly. Wheels raise the axle and diff. Which aren’t an issue with the Rivian. So I’m not sure there’s as much need for larger wheels unless I’m wrong here.
  15. Rivian R1T aftermarket parts and accessories

The Rivian price point will mean a small install base. If that install base you have a smaller portion that would mod it. That equates to a very tiny consumer base to market your aftermarket parts to. I can’t inagine many aftermarket part makes will want to invest the time and money into such...
  16. Rivian Servicing & Repairs?

Solar charging on a scale to replenish the battery for driving isn’t practical. Let’s say you have the 180kwh pack. That’s 180,000 watt hours. 6 100wh panels would cover the entire car and more (and weight about 200lbs). So even in the best conditions it will take 300hrs or assuming at...
  17. Going offroad in your Rivian

True. Though I don’t see how you’ll add a steel bumper given the electronics up there. There’s radar, lidar, etc. same with winch. Jeeps have no electronics in the bumper for that reason. You can’t block them. I also doubt the aftermarket will try to overcome these hurdles. Jeeps sell 250k...
  18. Going offroad in your Rivian

Light to moderate. No winch and no body armor this isn’t for rock crawling.
  19. Rivian Servicing & Repairs?

I think what they are putting out is phenomenal. My only concern is that when they come to market there will be a bevy of competitors including those from established brands. They will have a harder time than Tesla because Tesla was the only game in town. Rivian certainly has the talent. They...
