  1. In the world of Luce, The Rivian R3X could shine

For those with money to turn but never owned a Ferrari, Luce would be the price of entry for real Ferrari allocation slot. Just about 99.9% of exotic owners currently do not want hybridized ICE, let alone BEV.
  2. Ferrari Luce?????

The intro video for Luce reminded me of intro video for Mac Book Pro. I think the best reaction so far from the auto industry is: "Luca Cordero di Montezemolo gave a harsh verdict: “If I were to say what I really think, it would be unpleasant, so I prefer not to comment. I just hope someone...
  3. R1S vs R2 = Tier 1 Luxury vs Entry Level EV?

Own R1S and have been in R2, I would say that this statement is accurate. Two things - R1 is not Tier 1 luxury vehicle and R2 has much less content and size than R1, especially mechanically. .
  4. Tire Swap to 22" Michelin Defender LT275/50r22

Range and efficiency are not the only reason to have different tires. You are right in that these days, auto mfg works closely with the tire companies to develop optimized tire for the particular vehicle. Everything from slightly different compounds, tread pattern and rolling resistance...
  5. Tire Swap to 22" Michelin Defender LT275/50r22

Just to clarify, its not the added weight; rather, its the increase in the rotational inertia. Carrying more weight in the cabin (passengers) will not affect the range the same as adding unsprung rotating weight. It will affect the range a very small percentage - nothing like what you would...
  6. Tire Swap to 22" Michelin Defender LT275/50r22

Just so you know, in case this is your first EV, any new tires will drop the range by 5~15% compared to the worn tire you replaced. Since the 119 load index tires are significantly heavier than the 116 Pirellie when new, it would have a larger impact on the range due to larger rotational...
  7. R2 Standard Interior loses: ventilated seats, rear heated seats, torch flashlight

Ohhh I can see it now. McRivian Value Meal R2 Deal. Or is it "Super Size it"? What will Rivian Happy Meal be???
  8. Why stock getting hammered last few days?

As discussed in another thread, the last earnings call was horrible. The chart below is the daily price action since the 4/30 to today. They announced after the market close so the reaction is seen on the 5/1. The primary reason for steady decline in the price has to do with both VW ($1B)...
  9. R2 TRI-MOTOR

Little sanity check. R1S Quad: 0-60 2.6 sec 374 miles range $121,990 starting price Your R2 Quad: 0-60 2.5 sec 400 miles range $70,000~75,000 starting price Why would Rivian shoot themselves in the foot? If R2 did that, there is no need for R1S Quad. Pay $50k more and go less and...
  10. Hit n run… fix or total??

Sorry to see and read. Hope there was a note left behind from whomever did this. It looks like there were two hard edges that got both sides of the rear wheel. Its Rivian, so the repair will most likely be $30K~$40k so it probably will exceed 50% of the current value - totaled....
  11. MB shipped axial flux in wheel in an AMG

Axial flux motor on its own does not need to be in the wheel. The wheel motor is one potential application. Its the power density that makes axial flux unique. My two seater has an axial flux motor in the transmission of V6 motor. Since MB bought YASA, they are the first EV with axial flux...
  12. Hot charger.

Have you tried swapping A and B plug between the Rivian and Tesla chargers? If A gets warm still with the Tesla charger, then you know for sure that it's the charger, and not the splitter B problem. Conversely, if the Rivian charger gets hot plugged into B, then you know its the splitter B issue.
  13. Hot charger.

There are two source points for potential cause. As already mentioned, NEMA 14-50 plug itself. I had a similar problem where the plug had melted inside the housing - not visible from the plug itself. It was Hubbell plug installed by an electrician when we originally ran a dedicated line from...
  14. Rivian patent on manual torque vectoring using steering wheel scroll dials

Don't know if this has been discussed already but here is the patent application for manual torque vectoring using the steering wheel dials. You'll be able to control drifting and tank turn. https://carbuzz.com/rivian-manual-torque-vector-patent/
  15. Odd/new regen & reversing behavior

Never have experienced what you are describing with out 2023 R1S. Would definitely take it in for service and while waiting, first thing I would try is to turn off blended braking and see if that's the cause. Good luck.
  16. R2 vs midsize SUV- need by June

As EV owner since 2018, Tesla and Rivian, when you take into account the total ownership costs (purchase price, insurance, operational and depreciation), its not clear that EV is cheaper over 5 years, especially if there is an accident involved. Yes it costs less to run the vehicle than gas and...
  17. R2 vs midsize SUV- need by June

One of the best low cost AWD vehicle (since your location is Chicago), is the Subaru Crosstrek. It costs about the same as Civic and Corolla, and has high safety ratings.
  18. First world problem - Dealing with limited lease miles

Why not just keep the Honda Accord and use it for commuting. Don't trade it in - just add R2 to your household. We have never leased any vehicle because our commute were always closer to 20k miles/yr. Also having kids in club sports doubled the amount of milage on all of our vehicles. I...
  19. Rivian took over my Tesla Supercharging session and charged me more than double?

Many SCs are TOU-based pricing for Tesla (and members since its Tesla pricing). It has been that for several years. I am surprised that you have not come crossed that. The non-Tesla flat rate is always higher than the peak TOU rate so that's why it probably doesn't change. Whenever I've used...
  20. When will R1 get Gen 3 hardware?

Conceptual design - yes, production planning - most likely not. Not a question of being able to develop multiple vehicles at the same time. Rather its a question of resource allocation. R ivian is still spending more than they make and all the new funds coming in from outside are all at the...
