From my experience over the years going to the Chicago Auto Show (CAS), when an auto manufacture has a prototype / non-production vehicle to present, it's usually roped off, meaning, you can only look but not touch, let alone sit in it. Sometimes the doors are even closed and you can't really...
Yea, I read that too. I suspect it was probably the same article - "Stealth EV Startup Rivian Automotive Granted $49.5 Million In Tax Credits From Illinois"
Time will tell whether or not that tax credit deal former Illinois Governor Rauner made will generate enough sales and income tax...
Electronaut's numbers are for the R1T. If you're interested in the R1S, here's what I've read so far:
180kWh battery = 410 miles range
135kWh battery = 310 miles range
105kWh battery = 240 miles range
Hope Rivian provides guided tours of the Normal plant shortly after it's up and running. If so, I definitely see a road trip in my future ... assuming I haven't already seen the R1S or R1T beforehand at a Rivian attended event of some sort.
FWIW, I had read the following in this late November Motor Trend article:
"... Rivian plans to borrow Elon Musk's direct-to-customer sales model, using mall store kiosks, potentially offering subscription usage models, and possibly contracting with third-party providers to deliver Genesis-like...
I second that! Something as textile (and cost!) as one of these vehicles needs to be experienced in person. What a bummer, not to mention a BIG waste of time, to have had gone thru the purchase process (paper work, securing the money/loan) and time waiting for the vehicle, to find out, say, the...
Good question Gene as I've been wondering the same thing. In addition, assuming it will have one, what type - full size or space saver - and where will it be stored? Personally I prefer the full size spare.
Same here, but like Keith (presumably eyeing up the 105 or 135 kWh model), I, and I suspect many others, have little to no need for 3rd row of seats. Instead of wasting the material and money on some thing that will never get used, I'd rather see that space freed up for other uses as you pointed...
Since you didn't put a question mark at the end of this thread's title, you got me! :-)
I definitely agree it would help draw in more early buyers. I hope Rivian announces one but of course the real question(s) will be how they structure/define the perk. E.g., how many kilowatts per year...
Certainly a different perspective of one's gear/load. :-) Definitely would like to see more pics of the dashboard and front interior. Considering Rivian debuted the R1S at the LA Auto Show, I was really hoping they would have been at the Chicago Auto Show, which is one of the larger auto...
