I would certainly hope the vehicle(s) will be available to the public. It would be very short-sided of Rivian not to after the cost of transporting them out there, and more importantly, to miss an opportunity to drum up more interest (read: pre-orders). So why wouldn't you have them available...
I wonder too on how it would fair in crash and safety tests. As for never been done before, probably true for a "production" vehicle but Atlis has designed their XT pickup to have a frunk gate.
More pics of the frunk gate at https://www.atlismotorvehicles.com/xt-truck then scroll down.
Lucid Air, sweet looking car, but that's quite the spread of vehicle designs and intended functions compared to an R1S. From the pictures on the Lucid Air website it looks spacious but as a sedan it also looks to have a some-what of a lower profile (height). Sure hope your "aging friends" are...
Hmm, Interesting question. I hadn't given that any thought. @Alan Burns, you might want to consider posting this into its own thread (or maybe within the "One-Pedal Driving in Rivians???" thread since it's some-what related to the brakes) within Rivian General Discussions for better visibility...
OK, foregoing any generated engine/motor sounds, another related topic I read about with EVs is that people don't "hear" the vehicle approaching and will some times walk right into the path of the moving EV. (Unfortunately an ongoing problem with people's head down mesmerized by their...
I was eager to see what Tesla put together for the Model Y. I was disappointed but not surprised based on what had been reported prior to the unveiling. Now that it has been revealed, for Tesla, and anyone else, to categorize the M-Y an SUV at this point is simply folly. To be honest I barely...
Amen to that. Some have said it's technically a mid-sized crossover SUV. :headbang: I think any classification that includes "SUV" for the M-Y is a reach.
The burnt orange color appealing but like I mentioned in the R1T colors posting I would prefer more of a burnt copper/rust.
The 7th...
Considering the cost, weight, energy output, and aerodynamics, the technology just isn't there yet let alone for mainstream EV production. There are plenty of sources on the internet that have done some math or least provided some numbers you could extrapolate from. Here's one random example...
I saw the Tesla's reversal too. Apparently enough negative public reaction to the store closings made Elon/Tesla rethink that decision? What's more interesting, will this have any influence (the public's reaction) on what will Rivian does with regard on how they handle direct sales when the...
That certainly would have saved us some money and time (4hrs) when we did a rim-to-rim hike into the Grand Canyon. We had to hire a service to drive us back to our cars. However, that situation is definitely more of the exception for me and would not warrant the additional cost of the...
That's a real interesting idea about renting the aux battery. Cost and logistics would obviously be large factors. Like where are the available aux batteries stored, do they need to be shipped, does a pro need to install them, how long does the process take meaning how much time in advance do...
Hmm, but if Tesla has that great of a product than one could question why you have unresolved (vehicle) issues to begin with. ;) (Sorry, that was too tempting to resist.) I suspect the "issues" are probably not major enough to warrant you slamming the product, it's just the service B.S. you...
Ditto.
I get it, they're a start-up and more than likely problems will arise in this area. However, to minimize problems they need to have a "transparent" plan in place *and* adjust as need be as problems arise as I'm sure they will. How's that quote go - "Planning without action is futile...
Thanks @Hmp10 . I think the author may have gotten his notes mixed up. (Or perhaps I am?) The quoted passage is certainly true for the R1T (pics available on the internet) but I don't see how it's possible with what I've seen and read about the R1S. The R1S cargo area/bay will either have...
Perhaps it differs on which Tesla model but I recently went through a mock order for the Model 3. The second auto-pilot option "Full Self-Driving Capability" is as you stated $5k with the order, however, an additional $2 if added later - "$7,000 upgrade if added after delivery" which requires...
Ah, yes, @CappyJax, you beat me to it. :fist bump: Most definitely second the vote for burnt copper (or an orange rust)!! My next choice would be a metallic root beer.
I know this thread indicates color choices for the R1T but I don't see any reason why they couldn't be also available for...
Yes, very innovative idea. I like it. However, this sounds like it would require a significant amount of system integration and of course safety testing. So, if Rivian is listening ;), I personally would rather see them consider it *after* they launch the initial version of their vehicles...
Not sure. I'd also like the ability to turn off the DRL though for slightly different reasons. E.g. to avoid shinning your vehicle's DRL into a neighbors windows when backing-in / pulling out of a driveway. Or when sitting in your parked vehicle that faces traffic (e.g. parking lot, driveway)...
