The Jeep Wagoneer S is so lame it doesn't have a tow hitch for mounting a bike rack, nor the ability to put a ski rack on the roof, nor sufficient ground clearance to leave the pavement. R2 needs to do all of these things to actually be an SUV instead of just another cross-over vehicle.
Not necessarily an apples-to-apples comparison (pun intended), but the Apple Watch supports a subset of the Tesla app features, including using the Watch as your vehicle key instead of having to open the app on your smartphone.
Rivian appears to making great progress on R2! And the resultant vehicle should be awesome based on the comments by RJ and others!!
2 years is a long time to wait, so I appreciate these posts.
Given that Rivian is wisely adopting the Tesla NACS, solar support should simply be an API integration in the Rivian mobile app. Netzero has a good third-party integration and app for Tesla APIs.
Thanks, that is great news! If the price is reasonable I want the tri-motor in the R2, but was concerned about range loss. I will already lose range with the off-road wheels / tires so don't want to drop even further.
My wife's Jeep Cherokee operates in front-wheel drive, with the rears...
Can a tri-motor use only the single motor in front (aka front-wheel drive) to increase range?
This seems like a viable software configuration option. I am assuming that the rear motors would become passive and there would be no damage to the drive train.
Rivian may have a couple of goals in mind.
Based on the responses they could possibly simplify the production mix, much like Tesla did with the Model X launch. The dual-motor configuration was so heavily desired that they eliminated a single-motor option.
Sadly, Rivian may also be trying to...
I bought my Jeep Grand Cherokee and my Tesla Model 3 when each of the companies were in tough financial positions. The Rivian risk is real, but I would buy an R2 today if it were possible.
Spare Tire (at least a compact if not full size)
Selectable Regenerative Braking levels like Tesla
Range extending driving mode (use only a single motor)
More capabilities in the mobile app
I have noticed events in Austin, Orlando, and Miami where people could view the R2 (and possibly R3) in person. Is there a schedule of R2 / R3 viewings with dates and locations?
Both vehicles look great online, but in-person would be so much better. I did test drive an R1S to get some direct...
As a long-time Jeep owner I am kind of shocked that an "adventure vehicle" doesn't have a spare tire. If you order an off-road package on a Jeep a full-size spare tire replaces the compact spare which is standard for city dwellers. The Rivian may have to remain on paved roads or only do light...
