My OE scorpions are dying a noisy death, but I will be holding out for these after originally planning to go for the Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT (but put off by the wear rate) or the current Trail-Terrain T/A. In general people seem please with the current Trail-Terrain, and it's all I need given my limited off road trips with the Rivian in reality.

The BFGoodrich site is not super clear when it comes to specs, as it changes if they are OE. But as far as I can tell it will have a slightly higher mileage rating , hence a slightly deeper tread and heavier weight @ 275/60/20. It also would carry an official 3peak severe snow rating.

It's an all weather, i.e. AS/AT hybrid, like the factory Goodyear. Not a real AT. If you want a quieter AT, Toyo OC AT3 EV or Bridgestone Dueler AT Ascent among a few others. The Toyo is about the same price as the Pirelli AT. The Bridgestone is cheaper by about $100.

You say you don't need a true AT, but you want something that looks aggressive? I would caution that if you're not looking for an AT tire, I'd stay away from things like "look aggressive". Personal option, I don't think those look aggressive at all.

Remember you can order just about any tire to Costco or Discount/America's Tire too (the latter of which might be better/easier in the end).

And aside from the Michelin Defender Platinum, there aren't any AS tires that don't look like boring pavement donuts. But since Michelin only offers the Defender in LT form (in applicable size to us), that particular tire does not deliver on efficiency. So, no, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

So for those looking for somewhere-in-the-middle between looks and efficiency, the only option are the AS/AT hybrids. OK at most average situations, not greatest at any. Nothing wrong with that, as most users fall into that real-world use case.

Another AT option is to down size to 275/60R20. You stand to gain efficiency through the slightly smaller OD and potentially slightly lower weight as well. In this size you have not-boring options like the Nitto Terra Grappler G3. And being an XL, it's probably a bit more durable than a SL tire. But no one has shared data on it.

What's wrong with "boring pavement donuts" if that's what you need? If he wants something that looks cool, then come right out and say it. Pick up some Geolanders or Baja Bosses. Crap efficiency but if you aren't routinely pulling 250+ mile days, who cares.

I have the 22" variants of the Defender LTX MS/2 tires and I can confidently say efficiency is noticeably better. Much quieter and slightly softer.

Now the OEM Pirellis are more "sport" oriented so I notice with the Defenders there's more squeal/traction loss on harder acceleration and tight curves, but that's okay for me since I don't use my Rivian for canyon carving.

I also have aggressive almost RT/MT tires in 20" form that I swap to when needed so I can get the best of both worlds.

That's why I'm chiming in here. OP isn't clear (at least to me) what he's looking for. There are endless 20" options. But he "doesn't need a true AT" but is looking for the most aggressive looking tire? Why not go the easy route with some Defenders? With the ground clearance and power, unless you're hitting sharp rocks or really soft sand, Defenders will do just find with what most people here call "off road" too.

On my Defenders. This was fine and I hit some really steep inclines in loose gravel. Some areas with pretty soft sand too. Only needed clearance.

Swap to 20" for what I explicitly stated as wanting something that looks aggressive. So I got something fun. Surprisingly low noise, looks awesome, and works well off road. But bad bad bad efficiency haha. But does OP care?

I’ve got limited options with my Costco. I’m in Florida and am off pavement maybe 10% of the time. Btw, I realize now I was replying to a 20” tire but I’ve got 22” I had the Michelins and was unimpressed. I ordered them so we’ll see if they even install since they’re 115’s and didn’t offer any 116’s.

I don't think you have to be limited by Costco. Do you have America's Tire or Discount Tire (same company, called different things in different regions) in your area? Much more efficient process and they give you free rotations/tire swaps when you need. They are also an approved partner with Rivian so they have lifting pucks (or at least know how to handle them). They should offer the same warranties as Costco.

All good. I had uneven tread wear on this and an old Lexus a while back. Alignment was fine both times. I generally shy away from the chain tire shops as they’re always trying to sell me some sort of upgrade and (anecdotally I’ll admit) a friend of mine back in college worked at TK and they would purposely screw up alignments to sell more as it was a high profit item and they got bonus’ for each one as did the managers though that was indirect iirc. He then moved to Sears which had a similar scheme so…Costco is just easier for me and there’s nothing to try and sell me so takes out that motivation.
The R1T has become my backup vehicle that I average driving once a week at this point

EDIT: I will add that I was totally happy paying Rivian slightly inflated prices for tires but I found it irksome that they don’t include rotation or repairs. I was quoted ~$400 for a rotation and single screw patch and I know Tesla does the same thing but it irked me.

The T/A+ are not yet available, I might have to settle for the current model now that the Pirellis are literally falling apart.
