Has anyone retrofitted front recovery tow hooks onto a standard trim R1 that didn’t originally come with them? I’ve run into a few situations where they would’ve been useful—mainly for mounting a kayak on the roof or for light pulling tasks.
I'm sure the mount points are still there hidden under the bumper cover. Back before launch in 2022 tow hooks were a $350 (IIRC) option on the Adventure trim (& standard equipment on launch edition), but Rivian changed that shortly before anything shipped and made tow hooks mandatory on both.
Rivian might just sell you the hooks, but you'll still need to cut a hole in the bumper for them, or also buy the trim piece with the holes in it.
Most likely a straight forward swap. I doubt Rivian would change body structure and how they mount (and create unnecessary manufacturing cost and complexity). Your bigger problem is parts and cost efficiency. And it would be rare to find salvaged front end parts that aren't damaged. You could try autobahnparts.com in El Cajon, CA. They've dismantled quite a few R1s.
As mine was in the body shop for front end damage, I requested they replace the front standard bumper with bumper with tow hooks, repair tech ordered them, but
rivian refused the order, noting that the standard bumper need stay the same as ordered. O well.... Might be that after market and diy is your best and only option.
