Yeah but that's for bigger differences, like large truck platforms vs medium SUV. These platforms aren't that different. And it isn't 6vs5, it's the pattern spacing.
My guess is they went with this because it's a universally accepted format. Better for aftermarket customization as well as cheaper wheel choice options. A manufacturer making wheels overseas will have a easier time coming to the standard versus a custom standard like 5x5.5
Also, the platforms are technically completely different with one being a chassis/frame and the other one with a battery pack as a structure
