The word is often used to indicate higher quality and/or higher cost-to-consumer. And sometimes it is used to justify charging the customer more and not because it cost Rivian more, or is of higher quality. Example: paint colors and interior colors, that are "available" at additional "premium".'Premium' doesn't always equal 'cost extra'. It's labeled as such since it's nicer than the standard interior (which will come with the Standard Trim of R2 sometime next year).
And who knows... Maybe certain colors do cost Rivian more, which influence their decision on which options to make standard and procure larger quantities of. Industry-wide, majority of cars sold to-date are not ones with white/white-ish interiors. That alone would indicate Rivian probably didn't anticipate it to be majority of customer demand and didn't procure it in equal amounts from supplier. From what we [should already] know about quantity pricing, that means higher per unit cost... which would be passed on to customers.
I can see why someone wanting Costal Cloud would wish it to be a no-additional-cost option. But, that's just wishing for an exception to be the norm. Unrealistic.
