We have a group chat of Rivian owners in Costa Rica witha 14 members, but so far haven't heard of any of them driving down from the U.S. I do know of people driving from Guatemala to Costa Rica in an EV, so at least that part is doable, but not sure about crossing all of Mexico--that might be more of a challenge.
It has to be at least partially possible, since Rivian themselves have already done it in The Long Way Up.

I thought it would be neat to track the adventurous people who have exported their Rivians. Here is what I recall thus far. I don't read reddit so if you know of others please add them.

Germany: I shipped my R1T to Germany
Japan: Leaving to Japan
Kuwait: A leap of faith that ends up with regret (Critical Battery).... by shipping R1T to Kuwait
Netherlands: How I brought my bricked R1T back to life
China (PRC): Rivian R1T imported to China, Critical Battery Issue appeared!
I saw at least three Rivian on Honolulu a few months ago, and I saw one in Germany last week.

You can also add the R1T exported to Kenya to your list! As you can see they were modified for Game Drives. Per the article there were mean to be 4 vehicles in total exported to the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, including some R1S as well?

Question for EU Rivian owners - how did you handle the Type Approval (Certificate of Conformance) required for registration, or did you?

In Ireland, we need to provide a CoC before registering a vehicle.

We can take the vehicle in for a costly inspection and receive an IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval), but wanted to see how others are approaching this situation.
So both @allan88 and @AMJ have imported their Rivians to Europe without benefiting from the exemptions that apply to US Forces' members like @rivian_germany... perhaps either of them could offer some insight that would be helpful to you? :)

Which one did you see? White R1T or Green R1S? I only know of the two so far... :)

I have imported 2 R1T to Denmark, one of these has been sold on to Greenland.
In order to be able to register in Denmark, we need an approval document, I typically get this made by a company in Germany.
As they had no data on the Rivian, I sent the car to them and got a full TüV approval on it.
If you need help with this I can help, also if you need to convert to amber blinkers in the rear lights.

Ps: is there anyone here who has information about changing the data/GSM eSim to a European one, so that I can get data connectivity to work here in Europe??

I'd be interested in the amber rear blinker solution if you are willing to share?

Also following in hopes we find a GSM solution for cell data, although it hasn't hampered me to much here in Ireland so far. Rivian has a solution for the vans in Germany, and one has to assume this could easily be transferred over to the R1 series vehicles if they wanted to provide the service. I would imagine the hard part for Rivian is billing and legal.

I can PM you his contact information.
Tail lamps must be sent to him, you should probably expect an 8-10 day turnaround.

It should be possible to reprogram the telematics control module with new e-sim data.... I'm working on it....

Thank you, yes please PM me about this . . . we have our first road inspection at the end of January and I fully expect to get dinged on this. But even if it slides under the radar its something I think I'd like to have done on our truck regardless.

Looking forward to the work you are doing for Rivian's in Europe!

Whenever you find a solution for allowing eSim data other than the plan arranged for by Rivian, do let me know! It's certainly the biggest hurdle discouraging me from taking the steps necessary to ship the cars across to Europe.

That all sounds great, I would be very interested in the address of the company in Germany in order to get a German data sheet for our R1S in Germany. So far I have spoken to several companies, all of which unfortunately had no idea on the topic. I would also be happy about the address that turns red indicators in the taillight into yellow indicators

Would you also be able to send me a message about your admin experience? I'm looking at bringing a Rivian to Switzerland, so it would be useful to get a sense all these bureaucratic headaches ahead of time!
