Folks, the whole reason the LE exists and includes Autonomy + is to incentivize people to buy these models now and not wait for Gen 3 hardware. They're NOT going to overlap LE and Gen 3 no matter when Gen 3 hardware comes out.

So you think Rivian is going to have both Gen 2.5 and Gen 3 models exist at the same time, with the same free autonomy +? Who in their right mind would buy a Gen 2.5 at that point?? This is one of the more absurd discussions I've seen on this forum...

It's completely possible and plausible. Like I have said numerous times, LE P model stays but you add the Premium in with HW 3. This way you don't alienate the LE people as a completely new model was added. This would allow the premium model to be a 2028 ae well. Also considering Rivian has stated Premium is available at end of year I see this as the only route actually.

I think its pretty clear that the free stuff goes away w/ Lidar & RAP1 arrival. Perhaps Launch Green paint option remains for a while longer?

My only question is whether this will be a soft roll into MY27.5 or early flip to MY28 (compared to past R1 MY flips in summer).

Which is why, IMHO, the smart way to get the LE R2 is to lease it, that way, upgrading to the new model with LIDAR etc. is relatively easy.

Sure, but haven't folks looking at leasing been saying that the leasing numbers being offered are absurdly bad right now? Wouldn't that negate the benefit somewhat?

The lease is trash compared to purchase. The reality of any noticeable difference won't be seen for at least 5 years, Per RJ. The only near-term advantage on lidar is the processing power in Rap1.

People are concerned about getting a 1st model year car... LOL. I would be super concerned with unproven processing function and software...You are abandoning proven tech for something completely unknown...

Since no one really knows what the LE R2 will be worth on the used market in 3 years, isn't it a safer bet to lease, and let the resale be the responsibility of the leasing company?

LOL.. the R 2 will be worth more than 25 but less than the residual so purchasing and selling is still a better option. The lease MF to APR is like 9% vs purchase at 1/2 that. If you like burning money i guess..

SVP of Electrical Hardware Vidya Rajagopalan said Rivian has had RAP1 silicon in-house for more than 18 months, is at the tail end of automotive validation, and expects the remaining hardware-characterization testing to be essentially complete within ~1.5 months. That points to roughly late October 2026 if the schedule holds.

I wonder what Rivian is going to do if they ever have a third generation of RAP.

Woah! Hold your horses. Let's see what happens to Gen 2 first let alone Gen 1. It will take a few years to develop and validate first. They can't get onto that too seriously until RAP 1 is done. And I bet they already have production ready to start producing it en mass. Gen 3 is way off.

How hard can making 5nm chips be these days? The iPhone to be introduced today is down to 2nm. We'll see.
