Given the absolute lack of details regarding "maintenance" and zero response to multiple questions about it, I'm starting to assume yet another troll post. I'm 35k miles in and the only "maintenance" I've paid for are the new set of tires I'm about to have installed this morning.

Same....but 68K miles......new tires around 38k miles and refilled the washer fluid a few times......awesome truck.
The only "problem" is that now I can't justify buying an R2 since I love my R1T so much (and can still get 0-60 quicker than the quickest available R2)...

My Gen 1 R1T is being sold tomorrow because of this. Ive had many service appointments, but the last few have been ridiculously expensive. $3k into AC repair in the last 2 months has made it clear that I dont want to own this out of warranty.

Hey all, I dont monitor this site so apologies to those expecting quicker responses. Post was intended to be a heads up to those inside of warranty (nice when its "free", shouldn't be any less concerning), considering EV reliability, and real world experience vs forecasts. Not intending to throw shade. I own a ton of Rivian in almost all facets. They have a great future, some aspects have some challenges that will take some time to sort out. Maintainability vs cost is one of them. Real costs incurred minus some every vehicle has them standard costs that I didnt want to go back and look for:

Suspension (dampers/springs, half shafts, seals, control arms) ~$18,500

Sensor diag and re-alignment ~ $1900

Rear Subframe ~ $4800
Front Subframe ~ $6500

12v Battery replaced 2 times ~ $600 each

Rear Camera ~ $1200

Rear brakes ~$700

Tonneau realign ~ $600

Glass front x 3 ~ $2300x3
Roof glass ~ $6000

Not including tires and maintenance checks as those are conditional. You can understandably remove the glass as well, but ive never had glass replaced on a vehicle more than this one so just a data point. Remove all of that and I'm still at $35k+. Again, all of this happens for me at or above 100k miles so that has been pretty consistent. I had near zero issues under 80k so part of it is bad timing I'm sure.

We can argue over maintenance vs structure all day, but if this is occurring at these mileage intervals - are there justifiable reasons to suspect better in the future? I hope so, but my current forecast is looking like $90k to maintain for a 300k mile vehicle post purchase price with some exclusions. Hopefully a couple things won't re‐occur, but new things will replace them (motors, batteries, harnesses, etc). Might be significantly higher than $90k, but I dont see a lot of the current components all of a sudden getting more life just because, so I doubt it'll be less than $90k. Costs above are outside of warranty, so in fairness everything covered inside of the warranty is not added, so the full life of the vehicle calculation could be off on my part and significantly more.

Not looking to spark protest. Real world, just relaying for those under the line. $190k for roughly a 12yr vehicle is not a bad daily driver. But that's me...not everyone. Far better ratios with other vehicles without a doubt. Just a data point and a headache at times. It's fun to drive.

Thank you @R1TLG20BM for your updated information. It looks to me like every possible issue happened or was at least discovered all at once. Both your half shafts and subframe now have an updated design that may last much longer, though...obviously, time will tell.

Also, $13k on glass repair is excessive. Are you not using any insurance? I replaced my windshield once with a $50 glass specific insurance deductible. I have some small star cracks currently from the last 3 years, but I'm not going to bother replacing again until something is larger than an inch or in real line of sight. If you adopt this strategy, you could certainly save several thousand over the lifetime.

The expensive repairs obviously are the half shafts, dampers, and subframes. You hit the trifecta. You have my sympathies. I have not had your experience, but I will be more mentally and financially prepared for the event because of your report and thank you for it. I don't quite agree with your extrapolation of lifetime costs, but I don't care to debate it. There is a lot of entropy in the universe, so we each have to make decisions based on the events that have occurred up to our own present situation. Drive well.
