R2: Swapping stock wheel TPMS sensors into new wheels causes forward sensor issues after UI wheel swap

I finally got around to getting my TPMS sensors swapped into my new wheelset from the stock ones. I just happened to do the 2026.24 update and the software wheel swap at the same time, so it took me a while to realize what was happening. I thought it might have something to do with my rear bumper electronics that are currently just taped onto the hitch bar, since it coincided with the .24 update. It wasn't.

The driver's display will flash a tire icon white and orange telling you it thinks it is still reading from the old tires. Once you drive away, it throws a forward collision sensor warning and lane keep warning, and any systems that depend on those to work stop functioning. No auto brights, no lane keep, no adaptive cruise or autonomy+ at all. It still properly reports the tire pressures and at the correct corners, so it's a bit weird that this is happening. Could be just a software oversight.

Doing the software wheel swap back to my stock wheels made all of the errors go away. Went for a short drive and none of the warnings came back. They came back immediately when I software swapped back, before I even hit the end of the driveway.

I do have a new set of sensors I can put in the wheels, but I am not sure when I will get around to doing it, so I'm not entirely sure it'll even fix this issue, but I'll definitely report back. R2 uses BLE sensors instead of the old 433 Mhz style ones. I've never had a car with these before.

It is nice to see that we can fit 18" wheels on the R2. Looks good. Those errors are weird. Hope they fix this issue. I am hoping to get some 18 inch rims as well.

Verbiage is the exact same in the R1 manuals. Some people have cloned sensor IDs for their second wheelset on their R1, and not had this issue(which turned out to be unnecessary, since it relearns the new sensors).

On .20 without TPMS sensors in the wheels, my R2 still showed the last pressure measurement from when the previous wheels were installed, which lead to data that was stale from nearly two weeks ago at one point. And wheel swap didn't work properly on .20 for me.

I put these TSW wheels on first, but wasn't happy with how close the rubber came to the strut tower on the inside. +40mm offset is too tight on an 8.5" wheel.

I was fortunate to find a set from Japan, the earliest scheduled for Oct-Nov production. 30th Anniversary bronze on order from Japan, 20x9 ET37, not in stock anywhere that I could find. Otherwise you're looking at 8-10 months wait if you put in an order now for that size.

The R2 will outrun a heavily modified S15 SR20 DET from 0-60 and 1/4 mile so why not. Suspension tuning is sure to follow...

There are also many tire options in 255/70R18 (32.1”) if you want to be as close to stock as you can for efficiency.

I think I read last year that Rivian added a software that allowed us to change the tire size. Is this true and does it work on sizes other than the stock sizes? Also does the R2 include this? the tires I was thinking of getting have 31" OD. That is one inch smaller than stock. I am hoping the software allows me to change this.
