Ok, what's everyone's guess as to what this is? 2026 R1S Tri Max delivered 12/31/25. Currently just under 14k on it.

I am leaning failure at the inner or outer CV joint on the axle. Wife drives it and she doesn't drive it hard. Tires holding up good. Fronts had 8/32nds and rears 9/32nds when rotated recently by Rivian.

Wife said it happened all at once yesterday. Starting with squealing noises, slight shaking, then intermittent popping and crunching noises. What is readily repeatable is the pinging noises or the sound like something is loose in the driver front wheel area. There is also some shaking and thumping but I didn't drive it on the highway or take it above about 40 mph.

Rivian has been very responsive and wants us to bring it in first thing tomorrow. I have no doubts Rivian service will resolve it.

Sounds like your halfshaft. Apparently can break if you hit something hard enough (ex. pothole). Easy fix for Rivian. Unfortunately, appears to be a common problem. Had mine fixed just back in April, was too scared to drive it (caused regen to disable) so had it towed to Rivian, which they thankfully covered cost of. Check out the forum to see lots of people with same issue.

Start with the halfshafts and the ting washers. Should be a warranty item.

Update: It was multiple rocks stuck in the dust shield. my wife drives it and I couldn't reproduce it for the Tech, but they decided to look at it anyway and they found multiple rocks in there. Remove that I drove it all the way back and it's fine. My wife confirmed that everything is good now as well happy with the outcome.

it's funny because I mentioned to the technician I said the only other thing I can think of that would make those kind of noises would be you know rocks stuck in a dust shield for the rotor and sure enough that's what it was.
