I guess they don't guarantee to keep the launch edition in case you want one.

Based on people's invitation estimates from yesterday, the launch edition will remain available at least through the end of the year, probably into next year. At some point they will cut it off and you'll only be able to buy a "regular" Performance trim, and I doubt having a reservation will change that when the time comes. I suspect they will make an announcement though, its not like one day at midnight the launch package will just disappear.

My speculation is that the launch edition will last until MY28 comes out (presumably with LIDAR+RAP1), so MY27 Performance trims will all be launch editions.

So I’m guessing that whenever the Launch edition “runs out” and you buy the “regular” Performance edition, it will cost more? It’s hard to tell from the current pricing, whether to take advantage of the current Performance trim.

I assume it will cost the same , you just won't get autonomy plus and tow package for free

Prices could fluctuate, but assuming they don't reprice the lineup, the Performance trim will still cost $57990, but won't come with the $2500 Autonomy+ or $950 tow package included. You would also get a standard key fob (silver and yellow if it matches the R1 instead of green and yellow), and will not have the option for Launch Green paint.

If that's the case, I'll wait until I get it with the RAP1. I hope they clarify that. Not sure I'd sacrifice Autonomy+ and tow package for free to get it though when there are still so many questions about the capabilities of gen 2.

Personally, I'm not expecting the Launch Package to overlap with the RAP1. Maybe they'll be available during the same time period, but I suspect it's going to be "get autonomy+ and tow package for free" or "get lidar and rap1 for free" (ie no base price change). Maybe lidar will be an upgrade option though? Not sure.

If you currently have a reservation, you should be able to get a launch edition. If you're not in a hurry, it shouldn't hurt to wait till the end of the year to see where RAP1 lands and what their strategy is. Keep an eye on any news though in case they announce changes that will affect reservation holders.

My purchase window is November-December, with 4-8 weeks for delivery. So I'm right at the transition point. I'm sure Rivian will clarify what the choices are going to be. I would not mind paying for the Autnomy+ if I would get LiDAR/RAP1 and Tow Package for free. (You should work for Rivian marketing! What a great idea!)

We'll see how things shake out. The one thing I don't want is that if I decide to not get the Launch Edition but a Pemium with LiDAR instead, and then losing my place in line!

The one thing you have to be aware of is that as of now, the PERFORMANCE edition is the only one they are selling and shipping. The PREMIUM (which makes no sense in name.....Premium should have been the TOP of the line model name, but I digress), isn't available until later in the year. That is the one we configured and got a message that said it wil be available between December and Feb.

We are trying to get our reservation moved to the PERFORMANCE edition.

When making my R2 reservation, Rivian was very clear in asking whether I was"definitely" interested in the "R2 Performance with Launch Package" or not.

If you answered "No" it might be too late to change your reservation preference now, but worth a try. Or call Rivian with your reservation number.
