Polestar blocked from US market in2027 - good news for RIVN?

Looks like the feds have effectively blocked Polestar out of the US market, due to China’s influence and control of the brand. While the continues the US‘ disinterest in EVs, I think it good news for Rivian, as many have said they cross-shopped the Swedish brand while looking at Rivian. Thoughts?

No impact - they didn't ban Volvo which is a much bigger competitor.

As someone else said, their sales weren't meaningful enough to really take much out of Rivian's or Tesla's pie. If people think the Model Y and R2 don't have much common, even less similarities can be found on the Polestar 3 or 4.

I personally hate the news. I wanted to see Polestar succeed. I like the idea of a more "luxury" Tesla - minimal, tech forward but with nice amenities like massaging seats and HUD. The Polestar 3 and 4 filled a weird gap of techy EVs but with features that are missing from competitors. I was looking forward to the 2027 Polestar 3 with 800v and more HP. I think they were finally getting on the right track. It was probably the runner up for me versus the R2. I think the Polestar 3 is an absolutely beautiful vehicle.

Honestly though, this just hurts the market overall and give us less EV options. I personally found the current Polestar offerings competitive. If they fixed their pricing and range, I'd probably own one. I guess not anymore.

I wanted the EV startups to succeed. Telsa, Rivian and Polestar and Lucid were battling out for 3rd place. Now it's Tesla in the lead, Rivian comfortably second and a void left with Lucid struggling and Polestar gone. Traditional manufacturers have not figured this out and the dealership model is doing them 0 favors.

Any publication I've seen cheering this on or reporting it as a Polestar problem got an immediate "ignore" from me moving forward. This is not a good thing. Period.

As far as competition, I'd love to see another member of the VW group with Rivian connections, Skoda, come to the US market.

Volvo and Polestar EVs are low volume. Takes only a web query to find out. Negligible impact. Rivian just needs to do what it is doing: stay the course and steady as she goes. The rest is just noise.

As for the “news”, Polestar and Volvo are both under the Geely umbrella. One is dealership model while the other is direct to consumer (and all electric). Obvious what this ban is really about. Plus, Lincoln Nautilus and Buick Envision are both made in China and both have connected features.

Not sure why bad news for one EV company affects the others. Bad news for Stellantis does not mean bad news for Toyota.
