I understand, and agree that the extra power can get you out of trouble - or into it! I do appreciate it for passing and merging, but I just think at some point it's more than enough. (Maybe I wouldn't have said that thirty years ago.)
A few years ago I drove Genesis G70 3.3T with a measly 365 hp (of course it "only" weighed about 3850 lbs). I always had enough power to pass when I wanted to.
Age/Responsibility is the key... I'm not giving my TM3 to my son. No matter how much trust I have... there is too much temptation.

There is a kid who drives a TM3 (unknown trim)... but his car is EASILY recognizable around town and driving in our neighborhood and he is an accident waiting to happen. Going 30-40 mph through our houses is just horrible in an EV with the volume of young kids we have.

I'm not saying the Performance is slow. I just want something comparable if there is that option. The pickup from 45 mph+ was actually very impressive. I'm still hoping to get one...just a bit later down the line. Its a very nice car.

It's true that you can drive a lot differently in places like SoCal vs NH. Our son lives out there and I'm always surprised at what he gets away with in his Ferrari or his modified M3. He's doing triple digit speeds every day 😲 I never see a cop. You'd literally be in jail week-one if you drove like that here.
Having said that, we spent the winter in Orange, CA and did a lot of driving in a lowly x3 with the 2L turbo and managed to survive.

This thread will likely flame on for the Tesla purchase, but honestly, that is not a bad idea to wait until the R2 is more sorted out and better incentives are available. The M3P is an outstanding vehicle for the price and the tech is stable with pretty ironed out reliability and Tesla has appointments within days (at least in my area). Congrats!

Question is - what color did you get it?
Quick silver

No EV's...yet
Just look up Tesla Motors Club which is the biggest.

My game plan is to purchase in 2-3 years when (and if) the tri-motor comes out. I felt my M3P was faster everywhere than the R2 I test drove so I don't want to downgrade the speed. Also want those bugs worked out first :D
Let's be honest, anything sub 4 seconds 0 to 60 is more than enough to feel very fast and have plenty of fun. Beyond that it's more about telling people your car can go 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. Or, it's just something a person likes knowing they have, but in practical, real world usage it makes no difference. And, it's a freaking SUV, 3.6 seconds isn't fast enough? I guess I can see wanting a sports car to be the most capable in that arena but personally I wouldn't make SUV buying decisions based on if it can beat a 911 GTS off the line. But, hey, to each his own right.

You are probably right. However, if its available in tri motor setup, I still want that spec. As long as its not stretching financially, why not right :D

R2 lease doesn't make sense right now. Rivian launched with it, which is surprising, but they have no incentive to make killer lease deals right now because demand is high and supply is low.

I'm planning to buy the R2 then in 2-3 years trade in for either the R3X or the Scout Traveler.

Scout is compelling because of the EREV option. If you've road-tripped in an R1T/R1S you know the DCFC charging is rough because of the size of the battery and poor thermal management leading to mediocre charge curve. Having 500 miles of range and just charging less often is better for long road trips than a BEV like the R1. Perhaps the R2 will have a better charge curve - time will tell.

And the R3X? I'd get it just because it looks bad-ass.
I agree the lease i am seeing doesn't make sense.
I could trade in my Tesla and pay 450 a month and have a 30k to 35k worth of a truck after 4 years.
Or lease for 3 years for $750 a month, sell the Tesla for 30k.

About the Scout. I was going to wait for Scout over 2026/2027 R1T because of the slow charging mentioned. But the 500 is misleading. I am sure that is not the spec we have been seeing past 2 years. My guess they showed a max spec'ed truck, that gets more like 400mpge. Making the 150 electric more like 100mpge, gas roughly 300mpge... meaning on a road trip you will hop between gas stations every 250 miles. gas up 5 min, etc. VS staying all electric and doing the same for less, but 30 min more a stop...
I struggle to see people charge the 100 elec. plus gas up as well... No, most people just just drive a gas Scout vehicle on road trips... might as well buy a cheaper Bronco at that point...

Only benefit for the EREV i can see is if you are doing some serious over landing for many days. Being able to just carry a gas can is awesome for that fringe case.
